Transmission choices - 200R4 or electronic?

When going with big power I've been told I should consider moving from a 200R4 to a 4L80e - for two reasons:

1) The 4L80e will lose less power than the 200R4 and will shift better when controlled by a Big Stuff 3 EFI system
2) It will be almost unbreakable.

Any thoughts or experiences with this? I've talked to two tranny shops and they concur, but a 4L80e is a lot more money than a 200R4 as well....

I don't think the 4L80e comes in a BOP bolt pattern

Doesn't Jegs and / or Summit sell an adapter plate from Chevy to BOP?

Still to be determined - building a TA Performance Aluminum block. Conceivably could be 700+. Don't have all the specs yet.

Are you sure the parasitic loss through the drivetrain
is less with a 4L80E versus the 2004R?

Yes, I know this because it's a known fact that a 400 has more drivetrain loss then a 200 and a 4L80 is basically a 400 with OD.

Am I sure the losses are less with a 4L80 than a 200? No - that's why I'm posing the question. The mechanic building the engine told me this AND the 4L80 will stand up to the torque better than a 200R4 - even if its been built up. That part is equally important.... I don't want to break at the starting line.

Trying to educate myself before spending more $

Thanks for your replies.

Looks like you read the question wrong.----------

The mechanic building the engine told me this

Might want to research that particular point a bit.

Quite a range... I've checked with 2 or 3 shops for building these tranny's to handle 800+hp - Low: $3500, High: $6000

There are only 3-4 people in the US of A
that I would want to do a 200-4R for me.

Or a 480LE.

Here's 1 of them. ----> www.CKPerformance.com

Give Chris a call just to get the info
you're seeking before you make
an expensive decision based on
incorrect or insufficient information.

He's a great guy, & you'll be glad you called. ---------
