Post TV cable

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, still fighting problem with my shift kit (Kurtz). I reinstalled the valve body with new gaskets, everything is lined up correctly. The transmission shifts quick and firm. However, the 1-2 shift is happening at 10mph at light throttle. The shift is firm (chirps the tires). If I were making a right hand turn from a stop, it would shift before I made a 45* arc. The tv cable is adjusted as per GM method. If I move the tv cable back towards the firewall, no change in part throttle shift point at all. If I manually shift the 1-2, it will do it at whatever rpm I move the lever at. I used (before shift kit) to be able to move the tv cable back and could manipulate part throttle shift points. Oh yeah, the main reason I put a shift kit in was because I thouht an internal leak was preventing a WOT 1-2 shift. It will shift 1-2 at WOT now (4800 rpm). Any ideas with the tv cable and 1-2 part throttle shift?
Mike

Check the governor to see if something may be wrong and also check the Throttle Valve in the valve body. Do all of the other shifts work properly? Did you change any parts with another trans?

Jason, I checked the governor, the check ball and weights move freely, the spring is still in place, the oring in the housing is intact, I cleaned the sealing surface of the housing very well and used a new housing gasket. When we took the valve body out, we reassembled the tv valve assembly and it moves freely. Are you familiar with the Bootstrap that comes with the Kurtz kit? That is the only change I made to that valve. No other tranny parts were used, just what was in the kit and what was already in my trans (stock). All the other shifts are fine, timing wise, and are firm. I called Kurtz and even he wasn't sure what was causing this.

Mike

Sounds fishy, I don't know of any other thing that would cause this unless the 1-2 shift spring is broken or weak.. Pull the 1-2 shift valve and stretch the spring about 1/4"-1/2" and that should raise the 1-2 shift.

Jason - Does pulling that spring involve pulling the valve body? Can't remember?!?!

Maybe the wrong spring got used there... what color is it supposed to be?

Yes, you must pull the vavle body unless you originally left the spring pins protruding out of the bottom of the VB. Most people don't do that. I can't tell you what color it is until I get home today and look. If he didn't change that spring then it is probably just weak.
