mini starters

hey guys, one of the other parts that are on my to do list is replace the factory starter. I want to do it because im the kind of guy that will put the motor back in the car, and the first thing that will break is something stupid like the starter.

I see that brian sells a mini starter for 110 bucks, but i know that you can swap the starter out of a LT1 or LT4 chevy, does anybody have any experince with any of these?

I just got a 2nd starter from the store around Christmas. Mine worked fine until the freeze plug let go at 26 psi boost & it cracked the housing altho motor is fine. That one was at least about 7 years old.

Thumbs up IMHO; GO WITH AN LT4

I have used the "mini starter" with the "nose cone" stock style set-up only to have the engine kick back once and break/crack the nose cone part about a month after I bought that "pretty little thing" so I went out to the local parts store and purchase the smaller than stock LT4 GM "non" nose cone starter which is a stronger starter than an LT1 and have been using it for years now with no problems.

Lots of snow here in Maryland so I have time for a PS: I believe in two things whenever possible:
First & foremost, Always recommend the best part as "you" see it to our Buick community!
Second, "I" always support the vendors when I can, the last three things that I am responsible for buying from "this" web site alone are 3 chrome high output alternators; a 220 amp. mini for myself and two regular size 240 amp. for two of my friends. I guess we like pretty things because I took off a perfectly good/clean 160 amp. alt. just to go to chrome and I don't know if this is true or not but they say, if it don't go than chrome it.

Be careful and take your time digging out today!!

Bringing this back to the top. Going to be buying a mini starter very soon, this week hopefully. Been doing some research. Spoke to Paulie about it breifly today. The LT1/LT4 starters are the same units, at least the remans are. Not sure about real GM ones, and Im not about to spend that much money. The LT1/4 unit is about 9.25lbs, and require special hardware; while a standard SBC (TBI 5.7) starter is 8.5lbs. These also look very similar to the TBS.com starters so Im thinking they'll work. Local price is about $130 with a lifetime warranty so thats not too bad, and I can get one quickly should I have to replace it. Doc said they are like $65 on EBay, but I personally havent had good luck with EBay... But thats just me.

Someone please tell me what my best option is here.

Save weight , good price , support Turbobuicks.com, and after a while it grew on me and I actually like the way it sounds on start up.
