Cecil last night

Went down on a Wednesday for a change, wanted to see how it was compared to a Friday night. Got there a little early and got it teched. It was warm out on the way there. Car stayed at about 170° or so on the way there. Had the DRs on it and the exhaust open too. Gave it 3% fuel in the chip just to be safe. Got through tech and made my first pass. All passes were made in the right hand lane. The DRs were at 20psi, but I later dropped them to 18psi.

#1. 12.401@107.62 with a 1.754 60'. Not bad for a first pass in the heat, after driving it in. At least it wasnt raining. Car ran good but seemed to pull timing on the shifts the whole night.

#2. 12.369@107.81 with a 1.750 60', 20 minutes later. Not a bad pass either, just gotta find the best spot to launch the car. Car ran good down the quarter, nice straight passes.

#3. 12.310@109.03 with a 1.736 60'. It came out a little harder thanks to the track prep and some big slick tire cars putting rubber down. My 1/8 mile on that pass was a 7.815@87.11. Not bad in the heat if you ask me.

#4. 12.310@108.95 with a 1.747 60'. Pretty much the same as before, nice clean pass down the track. My 1/8th mile again was a 7.816@87.19. Im pretty happy with these two passes, my car seems pretty consistent even in the heat.

#5. 12.262@109.13 with a 1.715 60', 30 minutes later. My 60's seem to be getting better despite the bald DRs. I guess I found the best place to stage in that particular lane. My 1/8th was a 7.778@87.38.

I parked the car in the pits and let it cool down for about an hour.

#6. 12.525@108.01 with a 1.791 60'. Right after I did the burnout, they backed us off because a POS import had stalled out at the end of the shutdown area. So they towed it off while my tires cooled down, and I couldnt do another burnout.

#7. 12.277@108.83 with a 1.708 60'. This was a nice pass. After the sun went down it got really cool outside. I think it was 55° or so. Car was running good despite some knock here and there. I was lined up with a single turbo Mk.4 Supra and I was sure he was gonna beat me. He ran a 12.83@121 but he had a 2.3 60'. I was pretty happy and he was cool. He said my car put out a 12" flame out the dump tube when I lifted at the end of the track.

I think it was a decent night. Saw one other GN and a clean TTA running as well. Both drivers said they were on the MAGNA list, so that was cool. Not too many cars, but there was some waiting. A few people broke and they had a few oildowns as well. Not a bad night. I think Im gonna drop 2psi of boost out of the car and retune. Im not liking the knock too much.

Any thoughts??

Tires bald already? Thought there was more trend on them - or have you been really using them?

Sounds like a great spring night at the strip.

You don't say how much knock you were seeing-- how many degrees and where exactly did it happen? Be careful!

It varied. Sometimes it wasnt much, other times it was 6-8°, at the big end of the track. I cant figure this car out sometimes.

I thought you were done for a while?

I got to ask, why are you running old drag radials when you have good slicks sitting at home? It will not go any faster just by running it, you will have to make some changes.

Can you turn up the alky to help he knock?

I thought I was too, but I needed something to do on my vacation. I havent had a chance to get the slicks mounted yet, and the DRs still have a slight bit of tread left. I still gotta put my LCAs on, and the ATR bar. Then we'll go back to the track. Besides, last night was to nice of a night to keep the car in the garage.

I turned the alchy up, but it didnt help that much.

nice runs scotty but only 1.7s on the 60

last night at etown was a typical wednesday night , the only one who made as many passes as you was the guys in the cleanup trucks, i think the racers only made two runs , i got there a little late (just spectating) and after sitting there an hour and 1/2 for a full track cleanup I only saw one round of cars run and the very last car that ran oiled the track from top to bottom after 9:00 and cleanup on that ran past 10:00pm at which time the open exhaust cars have to pack it up , so so did I .

Do you have access to a powerlogger to see where/why/when the knock is happening?

Thanks Paulie. I know the 1.7 60's kinda suck, but considering the condition of the tires; I can see it. My best 60' on the DRs was only a 1.64, so I digress. Cecil had a few oildowns, one 3/4 of the track; but they had it cleaned up pretty quick. I did see a Terminator Cobra go out of the gate on a rollback, probably broke a halfshaft. They shut the lanes down at 10pm now and then run everybody in the lanes down the track. I cant believe E-Town was that bad, does that happen often??

Nope, ScanMaster only. Havent had the money to invest into a laptop and PL/DS. I'll get there soon enough. It did appear to be at the shift points and the top end. I gave it 3% fuel in the TT chip and the static FP was 45psi line-off. Maybe it was rich knock, I dont know. I drove it in and drove it out, so Im happy. I did like the back-to-back. 12.310s too.

Always good to drive it home as well. I did see someone's tow vehicle on a flatbed leaving cecil once, I wonder how that dude got home??

Maybe you can borrow a PL from another member and get a better view of what's going on. It'd be a shame to have the motor let go on you now!

I hear ya. My money situation is gonna get better here soon, and if I can find a part time job(yeah right), it will be that much better. Im just trying to keep it from knocking, and thats all I can really do for now untill I get a datalogger. Its on the list, believe me; but it'll be a while.

Be careful, at the top of the track when she's under load that's plenty to pop a gasket. It's my observation that the cars in the club that have run at the track forever without problems are all tuned for -0- knock and carefully monitored.

If you're going to keep pushing her I'd try to borrow a directscan unit or powerlogger from a club member (maybe they'd just pop their ECM out for easy install and removal) to get a sense of what's going on.

I know Scott, but the car didnt *seem* to slow down. Wouldnt a TR normally fall on its face with that much KR?? Car felt like it was pulling the whole way down the 1320...

Im working on a datalogger, its just taking longer than I expected.

you have lots of learnin to do

set fp lower , the chip was set for 43, with higher static and high boost you are probably past the pumps pressure rating , you'll get less fuel with high fp than low and you probably arent maintaining a 1:1 rise if your asking the pump to maintain over 70psi (45base + 25 or more boost ), you really need to be logging, with the way your flogging the car blindly im surprised it runs but then again it is an 86

if you have the room in the injector (duty cycle under 100%) than add fuel in the chip , if duty is already at 100% than adding 3% just fattens the bottom more to the point injectors go 100% , if no room in injector lower the boost to limit of injector raise fp and lower 1st gear fuel

and eric (TT) doesnt normally pull timing unless KR is excessive , so those retard #'s you see in your scanmaster does not mean timing is being retarded

and yes oil downs and cleanups are the norm for wed night E-town (open exhaust night till 10:00 pm) which is why i usually only go to spectate on wednesdays
