MAP Sensor/Powerlogger Wiring Question

I want to run new wiring for my 3 bar map sensor, but being the perfectionist I am (hence why I never get anything done on my car), I can't come up with a good way to run the wires in. Any suggestions?

An alternative would be to just run the data cable from the powerlogger analog block instead...I think putting that in a little project box under the hood would be a LOT easier than running a bunch of wires if I get an EGT or something down the road, but getting the plug through the bulkhead somehow I think would be a pain.

Is there a trick to accessing the bulkhead on the outside of the firewall without watching any Jane Fonda videos or taking off the hood?

It doesn't help I have a headache that only shows itself when I stick my head under the dash.

Dr Pauly can tell you exact location and color of wire, but... Behind the glovebox is a connector(clear and black) wrapped in foam, that has the MAP line. I tapped off that for my Alky kit and the PL..I ran the EGT wires back in through the speedo cable grommet.. You could either get a REALLY long PS2 cable for the Aux Input or pull the grommmet out and run the wires in..I've tubed everything so they wont get cut up. Then again..My car was(is???) a real nightmare under the dash... I'm sure there is a spot you could drill another hole, I just never got that far..

So you just tapped the wire instead of running new ones...I thought there was a concern about the 5v reference line being reliable? Not like it matters anyway I'm not racing it just want to monitor boost to compare with the other readings. I really don't want to drill any holes - trying desperately to keep this thing unmolested and its got enough leaks as it is.

I'm going to go back out and look for the connector - I took one look at the trunk of wires coming through for the ecm and said f-- that!!

By the way, the wire they use for the analog block would actually be a old Mac ADB cord, like a Mac printer cable, not a PS2 cord. PS2 has a couple less pins I think. I'm heading to a HUUUGE hamfest (electronics flea market) next weekend in Timonium MD, maybe I can find one there, preferablly in black :-)

Thanks!!

Hamfest, eh ? Timonium ? Been there and Carroll County(sp??). That would be the place to find one !! I remember reading about the 5v, yes, but so far it seems to be working fine. I've had my alky set up that way almost since day one

I GOT IT HOOKED UP! And exactly the way I wanted...no splicing, cutting, stripping, hacking, or otherwise damage to the car, AND it uses factory wiring under the hood, AND it uses the PL analog block as the 5v feed for the sensor.

The only caveat to this method is that it (temporarily) disables the boost gauge in the instrument cluster, but since mine doesn't work anyway, no loss.

I gotta run so I'll post detailed directions with pics later, but the readers digest version is:

1. I went to the boneyard, and wacked a couple of those plugs behind the glove box (NA or not doesn't matter). Made sure I left as much wire on them as possible. Came back, took one apart and removed 2 pins from it.

2. Popped the black side of the plug open in my GN and removed the green wire pin and gray wire pin directly next to it (thats the 5v feed to map - checked with a meter).

3. Popped 2 pins with leads from the junkyard connector into the car connector, snapped it shut and reconnected to car. I now have nice long leads for my signal and 5v lines from the MAP.

4. Ran the PL data wire up from the ecm to behind the glove box, and wrapped it up and tucked most of it away. I connected my 2 leads to the appropriate terminals on the PL block (input 2 and +5v). I then connected the data wire to the analog block and zip tied it to the heater wiring that just happens to be there.

WALA...nice clean install using factory wiring and good 5v feed, no cutting or splicing.

(optional)
Removed rest of pins from junkyard connector, and put the 2 original pins from the car in there, snapped it shut, and tucked it away. This avoids having to tape up those 2 extra wires not being used anymore. I will put some tape on the opening of the plug eventually but I ran out of tape which is why I did this (and decided to leave it that way afterwards).
