Alky kit is in!!

Much thanks to Paul (pacecarta) for putting the kit in. I held the flashlight and did a few little things, but I was basically watching him do his thing. Put this on my White T. No more race gas!!!

The alky kit was finished Thursday night. I did some testing and tuning on the highways over the weekend and as of last night I'm up to 24lbs boost with 27 degrees timing in 1st/2nd and 22 degrees timing in 3rd. All of this on Sunoco 94 octane with methanol/denatured alky. Started running low on methanol so I put some alky in last night. Still no knock! All of this is on the stock turbo. O2's are high 700's/low 800's. Still a little rich, I think.

I'm hoping to get some runs at Etown on Wednesday this week. Hopefully some real low 12's.

Nice! I'm leaning towards alky for my car... You think the 50# injectors with a stock turbo is causing the the car to run rich?

nope. its my spare chip that was burned for a TA49
it was too slow on spoolup and I could only manage to just break into the 12s with it , i had an adjustment made for low blm issue (too much bottom end fuel) and run that fixed one one in my car . I still had that old chip so for now we popped it in . thats whats making him so rich . Murph told me he already pulled out fuel down to -10 % and still has high O2s . better high than low and he should be able to get some #s to get his first chip closer to what he needs, that is if he sticks with the stocker much longer

when i swapped on my stocker i found i needed to do about the same fuel adjust and had to pull out all wot fuel just to be lean enough to be able to get the turbo to go up to 27psi. and still could only get egts in the low 1500s

Looking good! Paul is the man when it comes to tuning these cars! I think Paul needs to stop over my garage sometime soon.. I'll have the same project for him to over see as well!

730 , hard to tell with just a scanmaster or without an egt meter but thats low on the edge of trouble and has to be hurting your top end
do you have any time slips ?

you still have jims chip?

i asked what your slips were because you may be maxed on your injector

if you are running like low mid 13s injectors shouldnt be the problem
make sure the vac lines are good and tight (ziptied) going to the regulator and that the lines off the vac block are all good and tight as well.
change the fuel filter
get a fuel gauge and make sure the fuel pressure rises 1psi for every pound of boost (if your base fp line off is 43 and you run 18# boost than you want to see 61 psi of fuel pressure no less .
if fuel delivery seems good than ,
up the fuel pressure at the track or
lower the boost (chip might have been burned for less boost) or
get another chip with more fuel, TTs are nice

get the car running good before you bolt on alky

FP should be 43 vac line off. If anything, you may have too much FP. With the low timing, the O2s may be a little higher since its a little hotter. Main thing is you are not seeing any knock. With smaller injectors, I used to hit mid-high 600's Now that was very lean. Each car is a little different and may have a different sweet spot. The main thing is that you are not maxed out and can add fuel if need be, either with an adjustable chip, FP, or something like a MAF translator.

Both Paul and I make runs at the track looking at both O2's and EGT, with Paul now having wideband too. We try different combo's of adding fuel, taking out fuel, adding and taking out timing, etc always looking for the fastest times with no knock.

You picked up 21mph from the 1/8th to the 1/4 so you are running pretty good for 18lbs of boost with low timing. Since you are not using a race chip you will most likely run lean if you try to add more boost. If you want to go faster you'll need a 100 octane chip or an adjustable chip like a Turbotweak chip or something like an extender chip, Maxeffort, thumbwheel chip, etc so you can add timing and fuel when you turn the boost up and put in better octane. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks yes it makes sense I'm trying to race with the wrong chip..With a 50/50 mix sunoco 94 and 100 I did not get any knock. If I'm looking to go alky what chip should i be looking at? TT?
