With head work, a cam, and a 3k convertor, I wouldn't go with anything smaller than a PT51.

Jack has many years experience of knowing what works and what doesn't. I'm sure he asked you questions and based upon your answers he comparatively analyzed it and came up with what he thought would be the 'ideal' combo. for you.

Most likely due to the converter. Although it is advertised as a 2800-3000 stall. I had a turbonetics stage 4 on the car with an .82 housing. And for the life of the car it would not spool till the 330' mark. I did however switch to the 51 and can tell you that the orange stripe did a decent job spooling it, even with number 3 cylinder on a vacation. Exhaust wheel is the only difference between the 44 and 51 (PTE's info). I wanted to change the exhaust housng on the turbonetics, but the USPS did such a nice job delivering it that it arrived to Jack with two slightly bent turbine fins. The cost to rebuild the turbo(although nothing was wrong with it, Jack said why not do it for piece of mind and knowing it was done right) was $450 and 4 -5 weeks. I couldn't wait that long. So I never got to try out how well the orange stripe would've spooled the old turbo with a 63 housing.

The turbo is a top end monster with the .82 housing and you'll lose some with a .63 on it($192 for the housing) Your choice on having a different shop just straighten the two blades or replace the wheel. Replacing the wheel would be a better choice since you can replace it with a stock turbine wheel and use a garret housing to spool it. The other housing costs a little more due to the differences in turbine wheels. Which turbonetics said they'd have to cut to fit.

Jack probably recommended a CPT-44 because he doesn't deal with PT&E. He deals with Turbonetics. All of the 51's I have ever seen are made by PT&E.

Yes the 51 is a PTE only turbo. The 44 is very similar.

I'd still go bigger if I could do it again.
