Angry I am pissed>very long be prepared

ok since im like the only mkiv supra in winnipeg, and i dont know any other winnipeg car message boards, you guys are stuck with me hehe.(hey at least my car black, read wheel drive, also turboed, and up till few months ago was also a 87 grand national owner).anways heres what happened today.this is pretty accurate the main issues and events that occured are mentioned.small details i either forgot or emitted for lack of laziness during my typing are not entered.i brought jakup with me as he knows quite a bit about cars.

well as you all know my clutch is just trashed.so im reading your boards other night and craig mentions how about a centerforce clutch.so i start surfing net on some info on this(damn im a surfaholic hehe).low and behold i find out centerforce makes a clutch for it so i think cool.i phone down to texas and stop the order on my clutch.well i get to talking with my uncle and he says phone a shop and get them to drop the clutch out and lets have a look at it first before i even buy anything. So i think yeah that might be a wise idea as he insists i can machine my flywheel, and maybe he can have some custom clutch put in my car.well i want to drive these last 3 weeks before snow so i was up for ANYTHING.damn i want to drive.and i dont mean my 4 cylinder winter cavalier.

So i get on the horn figuring anyone in the clutch industry should be able to remove this clutch in no time.well all the usual shops were not able to get me in for a few days, till i found one called RnR transmission at 1601 niakwa rd e on off of fermor.he said he could do it after lunch it was about 11:00 when i was calling.I thought great things are going well.If only i would have known what was to happen.

Well i bring it by limping it over.enter shop meeting the manager or owner not sure, named ROBERT.goes something like this.

me-HI i phoned earlier for the supra
rob-yep lets have a look(we walk outside)
me-basically ive just modded the car up and am running about 450 hp crank so i need a very strong clutch.(gives me a heavy smile very sarcasticly)
rob-you must have watched fast and furious
me-yeah i did this is the same as the orange car that races charger at end of movie.(kinda not sure what that meant at the time but i know now,he thought im some kinda honda civic front wheel drive horsepower dreamer that thinks i have 450 horse but really has about 90)
rob-but that car had nos
me-yes it did what do you mean
rob-well this car probably started with only 200 hp how do you figure its at 450?
Me-(now im getting stunned and agitated)do you know what this car is?
rob-yes its a toyota supra
me-well it comes from factory with 320 hp and 320 torque.
rob-really?pop the hood lets take a look

me-(i pop hood he stares at it for long time--im now starting to realize that this guy is real old school believing that technology dont exist in cars after 1971 for hp and that anything under 400 cubes is not fast.not even sure if hes heard of turbos.well at this point im really worried, but again im thinking he is a clutch shop and all hes gotta do is drop the clutch.just cause he dont know what my car is doesnt mean he dont know his clutchs good).i mean sheesh most of the city has never heard of a mkiv supra so that dont mean anything.

rob-my mechanics car is tubbed and has a huge v8 motor(forget what size he said 460 or 440 or something) i still cant see how you think you have 450 hp i bet your clutch was about to go anyways.
me-look all i want you guys to do is pull it out for me to view it
rob-ok then well get to work on it after we finish this van
Me-ok i can talk to the mechanic working on it before i go please
rob-why?
me-well i have printed out all the torque specs on reinstallinig the clutch and i would just like to leave that info with him and ask him if he needs anything at all as i can print out the whole clutch job for him in case something stumps him.(isnt the internet great)
rob-we dont need that stuff my mechanic can do it all
me-well i just thought it might save you guys the time of looking up the torque specs as it may be hard to find
rob-ok leave it with me ill give it to him
me-umm alright then its in the back of car in a black binder(im not liking this guy so far)
rob-ok
me-ok i gotta run ill phone you guys in say about 2 hours sound good?
rob-yep that should be good
me-i briefly explain turbo timer to him so hes not alarmed that the car wont shut down after key removed.now im really nervous and arguing with myself to just drive away.i wish i did.jakub makes note of kilometres on car and we leave.god i wish i trusted my gut instinct just drove away.
heres where the story gets down right ugly.

Couple hours go by i come back to shop car up on hoist.pulling in i see huge i mean focking huge posi patch marks on road leading to shop.(me thinks you know where this going now)i walk in to see the mechanic no where near it and car barely touched.i dont know his name so hes dude for lack of name.hes under the van i proceed converstion.
me-hi hows it going
dude-well its definitly your clutch
me-i know that,but whats happening.
dude-i cant take that clutch out
me-whats wrong(he mumbles some technical **** that i dont know what it means so i cant repeat it)
me-damn that sucks(just then robert sees me and walks in)
rob-its your clutch for sure
me-i know its my clutch
rob-yeah it got really bad burning smell and can smell it in the car big time.
me-now my clutch is bad but if driven nice it still engages slowly but will not make burning smell in car unless really really pushed hard)
me-(shocked and stunned)WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DROVE MY CAR?
rob-we drive all the cars that come in here
Me-(seriously my fellow horespower junkie friends i was hurt, angry, and just feeling betrayed.i get him to lower car a bit not saying anything as not really believing this just took place.sure enough 2 more kilos on it then when i brought it in.****,damn, argghh,im thinking, you ****suckers.I didnt know what to do i just didnt say anything.im not sure why cause even later at night when i took the wife and kids to pizza hut i still had this i just got rammed in the ass with a broom look. i wanted to hit him so hard.i cant explain how i felt so exploited.yet now im angrier then when he he first mentioned that.but then i just kinda stared into space at his shop.guess i was in shock so to speak.i had heard of this kinda stuff happening but never figured it would happen to me)

i asked them to put this small plate they removed at front of tranny to view the clutch from back on the car,and that i would be back with my wife to pick up the car in one hour.Still not really saying anything about him driving my lady.i REMOVED THE KEY and left the car in their shop.got my wife and picked it up.clutch so bad now barely able to get home.car stinks in all gears now just revs like crazy.i hope he didnt **** up my tranny or flywheel to the point of no return.im back to square one again fun car sitting holding the dust off the floor of my garage.got ryan at motion performance checking out clutch options now for me.

let this serve as a warning guys mark your cliks on car when dropped off or stay with it when service done.unless you know guy doing it.im just burning now as i type this but i had to get it out makes me feel better now i think.when my clutch gets in from motion im staying with the car when its finally installed(oh please horsepower gods let me get another week with this car before snow).

RNR TRANSMISSION 1601 niakwa rd e.i am gonna spread this to all the horsepower junkies in the city so they may never have their lady violated the way mine was.god bless the honest service shops in this city and may rnr transmission burn in bankruptcy hell forever.i think i need a drink.

Trans work ain't fun. It cost a fortune for the previous owner to get the stock 200-4R rebuilt at Bob's, but it's still going strong and works great. There should be a few other solid trans places in the city, but there is nothing like doing it yourself. Just make sure you've got the tools for it and a service manual, and go for it!

Yeah, those guys sound like they're living in the caveman days! Bunch of morons! I would diffently given them a piece of my foot to there ass! I wonder what the tubbed car runs? It probably isn't that good!

I should go down there and mess with their heads. Tell them about my car. Then tell them about Terry's non-tubbed car that would lay a severe beating on the tubbed one.:P Then lay down a bet for a grand on Terry's car kicking the tubbed one.

Sorry to here about your trouble Blacksupra! But with a car like that you may have to take it to the dealer.
I'm a mechanic at a Buick dealer and I can see the tranny shops reason for test driving it cause I road just about every car that comes into my bay. That has to be expected when taking into a shop, unless you specifically instruct them not to drive it.
If you don't get anywhere give me a call and I'll try and help you out. Look at it this way, it's only bolts. Have you got the procedure for doing the clutch? Just incase there's any specific info thats needed. I've got a 1980 Supra myself and the clutch was easy on that one. Been sitting in by buddies back yard with a siezed engine for about 5 years. Died with 430,000km on it. Blew the head gasket 3 times and finnaly got fed up with it and drove it till it didn't go no more.

I'd put a solid G-note on Terry's car! That thing is going to turn some heads in Gimli next year! Hope I can say the same for the rest of us!

Which Toyota dealer are you taking it to? If it's Frontier drop in and see me I'm at Park Pontiac accross the street.
What clutch are you using, a strong one I hope.

They are good clutches - I had one in my RX-7 and it was a really great piece. Nothin' wrong with those!
