what kind of chip should i use

i have a 84 t-type non intercooled . the only modifications or after market are: custom cold air intake and a 93 octane hypertech chip. the problem is that in california we dont have 93 octane we just have91 octane. will that stop the pinging when the turbo kicks in. ? help

I also have an 84 mostly stock . I intend to update the chip with the highly reguarded TT. Would it be wise to get an 86-87 ECM ? Is this just a plug and play or do I need to be a genius to swap one in ? I have little interest in messing with a scanmaster etc. Maybe I would be wiser to stick with the old school ECM and TT chip? The car detonates mildly at WOT (I would bet because of its original chip ,cold air package and low restriction exhaust coupled with our modern fuel) I thought an up to date chip would allow me to use the full travel of the right pedal and would like to get the most long term bang for my buck. Thanks in advance for any advise !
