I'm not sure what you mean Sean. I took out the timing via the chip.

Russ, are you suggesting I should pull it and reset, or just reset it by turning it off and on.

To tell the truth, I don't remember if the backfiring began before or after the timing change.

Reset the chip BEFORE you start monkeying with anything else...if that doesn't remedy the problem...do what Russ says...he's one of the best on the planet.

what timing did you have it set at...and why would you decrees it....if it was running fine with alky at 24# why would you take it down without decreasing the alky or the fueling...could be backfiring at WOT due to unburnt fuel...specailly when it gets cooler...you need more octane for fuel to completely burn...

I took it down at Lonnie Diers's suggestion because I was getting knock.

How much KR are you seeing? What's your fuel pressure at 24 lbs?

when you decrease the timing...you can slow down the burn front leaving un burnt alky and gas....which could be re-ingniting in down pipe or headers...what is AFR when all this is going on

The boost is now set at 21 pounds and I'm seeing pound for pound of fuel pressure. The kr is about 1.5 to 5. I get a lot of tire spin and I have a very noisy cam, so I don't know what's causing it.

Is it sustained knock?

Okay, I reset the chip to default timing and the car still backfires. Do you think it could be the coilpack?

Change it with a known good one.

I have a new ac delco coilpack and an ignition module. I toss them in. Oh yeah, I guess I should try resetting the cam sensor first.
