A few questions

Hello to all. I am new to this site and wanted to ask a few questions. Next week I might be buying a grand national. I have always liked the G-body style. And the fact that it is a V-6 with a turbo really blew my mind. I have heard that if it is not a 87, then its not worth getting. Why is that? And also, does the grand national come with posi traction? The guy is going to sell the car for $500. It needs some work and the motor needs to be rebuilt. Is it worth the investment? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

86-87 were innercooled plus were setup for better performance. (intake, turbo)

They all did not come with posi.
G80 is the code for a posi car.
A G80 alone is worth 500 plus.

How could I find out if it is a G80? If I get the VIN # and look it up, will it tell me the info I need to know?

If it has not been removed, the codes will be on a list on the inside of the trunk lid.

500???? sounds a bit fishy to me. Check the 8th character of the VIN (going from left to right) if it is a 7 than it is the intercooled engine (86-87) a 9 would indicate 84-85 "hot air" car, which are OK, but not as powerful, and harder to make go fast. The only difference between 86 and 87 was one had an uglier grille than the other, and some subtle interior trim variations. 86 was the rarer of the two years, but for whatever reason the 87 is considered "king of the hill".

Why don't you pop the hood, shoot a couple pix, & while you're at it shoot the interior & body. If the friggin thing has a motor, tranny, rear, etc you can't go too far astray...

What do ya think

Hey guys. I went to check out the car today and I think I'm going to get it. It needs some work but for the most part, it is solid. I took these pics with my phone so they might not be the best. He has original rims in the trunk. It is a 87! Does the 87 come with posi rearend? Do you guys think its worth it. I want to bring it back to its original state.

That car sure looks rough as a cobb. Post the VIN. Ain't nobody going to steal out from under you. But I have to ask why is the seller giving it away? Surely they know that the car will fetch more money.
