Anyone using this Buick ECM?

I friend wants to sell off some of his parts and has an ECM for sale. The GM part number is 1226461. He said it will work in our cars with the correct chips but i haven't found anything to support it. I know our ECM's are in other 80's cars but they have the same part number where this one is different. Anybody have any input on this?

A lot of the ECM's from that era look exactly the same but are filled with much different computer code depending on the car. I don't think you'll get a solid answer on this one. I was going to say try the ECM out but I have no idea if you could potentially damage something if it belongs to a different car.

I dont think you would damage the car any by trying it out. I dont know what the difference would be. I show it fitting a 84-85 vintage SFI NA 3800 and those use the same sensors as the SFI turbo cars. The only thing I can think of that the NA doesn't use is a WG solenoid. I'm guessing the difference would have to be in the drivers.

Difference will probably be in the mask ROM, which contains a lot of the core strategies for fueling and such. That can't be changed without desoldering the ROM (and won't know what to do with a TR chip in the EEPROM, since things will be mapped differently, most likely).

Also our cars use crank/cam sensors and I think 1226461 ecm is set up for HEI. This could also be a problem.

Only the 1985 C-Body application uses HEI to fire the plugs. The 84-85 A-Body 3800 and 85 N-Body 3.0 use DIS. These are the only years and models that this particular ECM fits.

That a CCC or P4 ECM? In the late 80's/early 90's Dave Buckshaw and I think Tom Chou played with putting a P4 ECM into a TR. The P4 had like 16x the processing power, and more room in the prom for extra cool code. I dont recall the specifics, but maybe you can find Dave and ask him about it, Maybe it will work

If its a CCC then no, it wont work.

I tried an ECM of that type and it caused the Check Engine light to flash rapidly soon as I keyed on.
Didn't do any damage to the car, chip etc.
If you get it for free use it as a core trade in just clean the sticker off really well.
