87 GN ecu work with 3800 cam sensor?

As the title says are the signals sent from and 86-87 cam sensor the same as gen 1 3800 cam sensor? fwd car use the same ecu and same basic harness as GN. so would you be able to run a 3800 with Gn limp prom and chip?

I believe the cam sensor housing is different but same signal. Here is a list for our ecms I doubt the GN chip and cal pack will work on a 3800 other then run it in limp mode.

I'm sorry the motor is a 3.8 then its just a fwd motor its from a 1986 Buick Century custom your saying the signals are the same then why wouldn't the ecu work properly with a custom made harness?

Let's start over. What are you trying to do?

The crank signal will be a problem as they use a 3X and 18X sensor. The duty cycle on the 3X changes depending on cylinder location. Also, the cam sensor is fixed, not adjustable as is the GN sensor. That may be an issue since the interrupter on the crank sensor has three different window cutout dimensions.

The EGR is digital vs. analog on the GN. YOu would probably eliminate it.

The TPS uses a different curve and maxes out at around 4 volts and starts at 1 volt, again, not adjustable.

The IAC might be OK as it works similarly in both applications.

You would need to add an ESC module because the 3800 incorporated the ESC circuitry into the ECU.

I can't think of any other issues...the GN ECM should run the NA engine once you sync the ignition properly. It may involve retrofitting the GN interrupter and crank sensor into the engine.

Is this project strictly so you can use the MAFT Pro?

If so, then (don't quote me on this) it may work with the ECU already in place, if the car is a MAF based system.

Perhaps ask this question on the FT board and start a discussion?

I think it's plausable. You'd have to do some searching through the threads to find your answer. Using the info on the crank sensor from John, find the thread where Bruce P.(aka Doc1 of 7) converted the LC2 to fast start using the 18X wheel(I think he used a 36X wheel) on the 3X balancer. Some mods need to be done to the ignition module for it to work according to Bruce.

Personally I think they are the same. Crank sensor signal anyway. They both use a reference off the cam and they both use the same 1227148 ECM.

Alrite thanks for all the reply's guy i think i found the problem with it not running right. I have a 87 GN crank sensor but had the stock series 1 3800 dampener on the motor . so i pulled it off just to double check the 3800's 3x ring spacing and sure enough the spacing is way off compared to the 3.8 gn dampener. so i put the dampener up in the Bridgeport and cut the heads off the bolts on the 3800 dampener. Then took the GN dampener scribed some lines off the hubs key way cut the bolt heads and installed the ring on the 3800 dampener. Ill try to fire it up tomorrow during the day. thanks again
