single exhaust or dual?????

well guys it time for new exhaust. being a northern state car its all rotted out with tuns of rust so should i go with a large single or 3inch duals? for looks i really dont care but more for sound and performance and weight.

thanks...mike

A single 3" or dual 2.5" 'ers would be fine. 3" duals would seem to be a waste... I think Hooker has the best-for-the-$$ 2.5" duals & you can readily get from Summit, etc. You can then do a "search" here for the particular muffler/sound you wish to endure--plenty of opinions/recommendations for these options...

3" ATR +Pitbull muflr seems a popular combo--even if a little harsh for some...

no turbo style mufflers, either..they are more restrictive than flow masters.

A straight thru type like the Max Flows, or UltraFlos, or any of the similar designs.

If you are running a typical 2.5" dual muffler system, then 2.5's are fine. Match the muffler(s) with the tail pipes.

Don't expect a deep tone like a V8. Not only is the engine a six cylinder, but, the turbo acts as a diffuser and smooths the sound out. The straight flow mufflers will sound good at wot if you are making some power.

hey steve happy newyear... not sure if you remember me but i had the knock problem before the newyear. ok i will look in to those mufflers and see what i can come up with in cash. the car really is mostly stock exept the downpipe, maf, injectors and erics chip so im looking more for sound and to get rid of this junk rusted out system.

thanks again...mike

Hey, I can still remember last year...1964, wasn't it?

I would look for a 2.5" Hooker, or cost equivalent, system with a pair of Hooker MaxFlows....they are cheaper by quite a bit over the stainless Ultraflows...course the ultras will last forever...just money
