Recurring Bad Coil Pack / IGN Module Issue

Hello all. I seem to be plagued with a bad coil pack and or ignition module on my GN motor in my RX-7. The spark plug wires on the back of the coil pack are very close to the firewall since the engine bay is pretty tight. The plug wires were touching up until a few weeks ago when I moved the coil pack and module as far forward as possible which is basically up against the back of the dog house. Now there is about 1/4" clearance between the boots of the wires but the wires are still touching. My question is, with clearance so tight in this situation can the coilpack/ignition module keep going bad because it's too close to the firewall? Maybe the spark is jumping to the firewall, although I've never seen anything like that. Is there any sort of matting or tape that I could use on the firewall that would ensure a spark couldn't penetrate through? I am at a loss as to why I keep replacing the coil packs and modules on this car, seems like it's been forever since the car had a solid ignition system.

you can also try using sound deadening pads....also are you sure the coilpack/ignition bracket is fully grounded.....

Mike how is the clearance between the coil pack and the hood?

Maybe you need a rubber mat between them.

Doesn't look like there is much room to relocate the module/pack at all.

The clearance between the top of the coilpack and hood is close. I don't think it's touching but darn close.

At night when it's real dark open the hood and check for arcing and move the wires around that are touching metal to see if they arc.

PS: alter the coil/mod. bracket some to lower some if you think it's necessary for more room between coil/mod. and the hood, also for more room between the top of the firewall and plug wire terminals.
