For Us Vacuum Brake Booster Users

Well mine finally crapped out after what seems like 15 years of faithfull service. While I was at the boneyard I stumbled across this neat little part that will make your booster look a little cleaner as far as appearance goes. Its a little bracket that holds the vapor filter. It mounts on the opposite side of the check valve. If you run the filter you no longer have to worry about it sitting out in the open looking ugly like it is on a NA G-body. Its from a 85-89 vintage C/H Body GM car. Thats FWD Park Ave/LeSabre. The only hard part, or should I say exspensive part will be the rubber line that attaches to the bottom of the filter. It has a 90 degree bend. The one I used I had laying around and was a discontinued GM part off a Corvette. I think AutoZone and NAPA carry them as well. If not you can use the Park Ave part and use a splice to make the hose bigger.

Cool beans! Worst case scenario one could just make a similar bracket.

What does this part do? Is it a check valve?
I have had 2 vac booster failures since my conversion which I attributed to cheap booster (Advance auto parts), but at least it's a lifetime warranty. Maybe I need this part.

The part is called a vapor filter. Its supposed to keep the gas vapors produced by the engine from eating the rubber diaphragm inside the booster. GM has been using them since the 70's. The bracket is a tool box item from the boneyard. I'm using the TTA vacuum block on top of the TB for my vacuum source and I just thought this part was a neat way to make the engine compartment look a little cleaner. If I had the time I'd engineer a metal vacuum pipe that wrapped around the intake manifold so the hose could be routed closer to the firewall. I never did like the looks of a big rubber hose running over the valve cover to the TB. I've always thought the IC motor was a work of art and should be the center piece of the car. Its little detail items like this that keep issues like the hoses from becoming a distraction.
