not much highway power?

is it the gearing in our stock 87gn's or the fact i have a non locking setup, but my car (mods in sig) beats just about anything off the line but its a different story on the highway in 3rd it just doesnt pull on the highway from a go like it does on the street from a stop

and it passes cars like a bat out of hell but i raced my friend from 55 he had a 91 sentra with a basic turbo setup and that car pulled about 5 car lenths but didnt go anywhere from a stop maybe its the automatic i cant figure it out...

does your trans shift hard? it may have a little slip at wot.you can't say something is wrong because one car pulled you. compare your's and his times and mph at the track.

Lightbulb Maybe your ....

running a little rich at that rpm or outside your power band Also, I believe the sentra is about 500#s lighter than you and runs at much higher rpm. which would give him an advantage w/the stick shift. It is embarassing
I was cruising along at 80 when a chevy pulled up to play, I thought it was a 350, but I found out later it was a 454. He pulled on me about the same, 5 car lengths before he hit the exit, we were at 120+.
That sentra may have just hit his power band at 55,

something isn't right. Your car should run well on the highway. They aren't gonna run as well as a similar E.T. 6 speed ls1 or cobra but they are no slouch. Most of my runs are random roll ons and id say its pretty strong

To be honest, I am willing to say your car is fine. However, these car's are not setup for highway style racing. These cars are beasts off the line. This is where they are comfortable. Just race him again at the track, I am sure you will win there

Your car should be a sling shot on the highway, I know mine is. Sounds like maybe your exhaust is restricted, what type of exhaust system do you have? Mark

If you're racing from 55, you better get a downshift into 2nd or you'll be way too low in rpms & power--at the lower end of 3rd. From a stop, or a roll you'd likely be in second until 70 mph or so--& you just can't give away that "blast"...

My GrandNasty has 3:73s with a real Art Carr 9" 3600 stall non lock-up converter. At 55+ mph I manually pull that baby down into 2nd gear and your ass is dead meat. Shift it instantly into 3rd and i'm gone. That car will out pull anything. That's my favorite highway game!!!

Try "brake boosting" it. Basically hold the brake and gas pedals down at the same time. Spool the turbo up, then let go of the brake. Also, make sure your rpm's are in your power band.

Unfortunately, all the races around here are on the highway. I had to learn this technique after getting beat by a few Honda's on the highway
