Delayed starting

I was thinking about inserting a switch somewhere, either the power to the IGN or power to the ECU so I could disable them for a few seconds before starting the car. I just got my new engine in and want to do keep then bearings nice. I know Bruce talked about delaying the starting in order to build oil pressure before starting, but I cannot find the thread. What do you all think?

I thgink you need a hobby... There is little load on the bearings at cranking speed. Oil pressure should be virtually immediate, anyway.

Ha, it's all this rain!!! I got my WB02 to install, and no garage because the house is under renovation. I am going to build a wiring harness for the WB02 because I want to be able to remove it without cutting wires, and since I am using a gauge currently it is gonna take a little work. Good thing is this is the type of stuff I like doing a lot. Bought a new set of crimpers for the amp connectors I got. I am a little worried because Innovate seems adamant about all connections being soldered but...

You can put a switch in the cam sensor circuit. I did this many years ago when it was thought that switching to multiport would gain a tenth or two. Never happened but made a great kill switch and will let you crank to get oil pressure. If you have Caspers cam sensor jumper this won't work.

A crank sensor interruptor switch will do what you want, interrupt starting and allow cranking and oil pressure.

It's also a good anti-theft switch.

Easy to do at the ECM location.

Multi-pole switch for redundancy or use a switch to control a multi-pole relay.

You can wire it so the switch can be accidentally shut off while driving and it won't kill your car, a bit more complicated than wiring a simple switch but safer for daily driver use.

I think my photo hosting site has removed that photo of the schematic however.

I use a multiple contact switch only to interrupt the crank sensor reference wire EMC pin B5, purple/wht. stripe, and haven't hit it yet by mistake when driving.

voltage and grounding are crucial on the wbs...otherwise, they get flaky.

Back to your bearings....original engines commonly go 100-200,000 miles without bearing problems. Now, realistically, how many miles do you think you will put on the engine before you have the yen to rebuild it?

Just take the fuel pump relay out so the fuel pump won't run until it builds oil pressure. That is unless you removed the factory oil pressure switch for a gauge.

I think the factory ECM and electronics have enough delay or crank time already built in. Bruce had engineered a fast start system, not a delay IIRC.

If you have an oil pressure gauge watch it when you start the car and you'll see what I mean. The type of oil filter you use might also effect the oil pressure on start up too.

I did see Bruce's quickstart thread but I am almost positive he talked about building pressure before starting by cranking.

The only problem with the oil filters is that I have yet to find one that has a anti-drainback valve that can hold for more than a few hours, and Im not even sure it is possible for it to hold very long.......?

I think I may. I will order up a kit to do it and then mount it the same time as my new SMC alky kit because I am not sure what is going where as of right now.
