New 4" MAF Pipe with built in MAF sensor

This is the prototype going to the bender today. Production units will be polished. The sensor element will be mounted right in the pipe, it is close to invisable to the airflow. You will need a translator and an adaptor harness to plug it in. Upgrade chips for existing translator units will be available so they will work with this sensor. It just does not get any better than this for performance and spool up still keeping the mass air. We will also have a full cold air kit to go with this or you can just clamp on a 4" filter and go. Price will be posted in about 2 weeks, (It will be good) Should be in stock in 4 to 6.

What about the screens, I thought you needed at least one in there?

That is slick!!

Is the sensor actually removable? What if it goes bad, how do you replace it?

Just curious because if it is removable, then I could powdercoat the pipe.

Thanks for the pics Mike

Mike,

Will the translator adaptor have a pigtail to utilize the built in air temp sensor or are the voltages different?

I really like the setup was just curious about the screens. I like the idea of installing the sensor like that becouse you loose Four hose clamps and two connections. Cleaner and less to worry about!

The GM 5-pin connector gives away the original MAF application

Oh it's GM? It looks like the cartridge style MAF sensor on my 06 Mustang GT. Either way, it looks like a limitless possibilities with MAF pipe diameter once you get a handle on the calibration.

We are not keeping secrects, the element is from a new ZO6 or Cobalt SS. It is going to be a very common sensor for GM very soon. It is fairly inexpensive and works great. It does need to be flowed in every pipe since changing the size or design of the pipe changes the output of the sensor. This element stuck in a gutted stock MAF sensor housing make a kick ass stock appearing unit

Mike
Ford's are Voltage based, and the GM's are Frequency.
Lots of the newer MAFs seem to be from Hitachi.
The trick with any sensor is getting the calibration, right. <G>

Yes there are almost unlimited possibilities, but, there are always trade-offs. ie large pipes have poorer low speed resolution, and too small off ones have poor resolution at the higher flows. Given Bob's work in the past with the Translators, I'd imagine this has been well thought out, and beta tested.

Lookin' good Mike. I, however, would be more interested in an unpolished, satin, or powdercoated finish.
