Basically, it is just not nice to pick on someone because he cannot type well, or spell well, or does not understand what he is told...frustrating as it can be....when a guy is trying to learn, we need to learn to find a means of helping him.

Even impatient pricks like me

steve, i totaly agree.. but.. when your trying to point someone in the right way by sending him to a buick vendor for something like this its fustrating when he asks for advice and goes 10000% agenst what everyone says.

I understand, but, if he knows nothing, then it takes awhile to soak in...no reason to post insulting crap like Nicker did, and such...

I wasen't being mean! No one can take jokes.

Rob what was it missing? I was borrowing it because you said you had another scan tool. When you needed it back I gave it back and went out to get my own sm2.1. I diden't mean to do anything wrong if I did. I really want to thank you though for helping me out since I was clueless with my car when I got it and you were the only friend I had who knew what these cars required and even if you want to part ways for anything I did wrong, im sorry, but in the end your the one that helped me learn and get started inthe turbobuick world and im very grateful for that.

the factory engine, if in good condition, is usually safe to around 500-525 hp assuming a good tune and NO detonation. With most cars, this should equate to a 10.9 sec quarter mile or so.

When cranking more hp than that out of one, a crank girdle needs to be added.

Remembering that these engines have been run for 20 years, and that the more hp one makes, the more strain on the engine parts, you better not count on pulling 500+ hp out of one several times a day without a budget for frequent rebuilds. The faster you go, the more it costs...that includes all brands of drivetrains.

The cheap engines from Jaspers, ATK, and so on...are just that...cheap engines...sometimes they work fine, sometimes they are just plain junk. Guarantees don't mean much.

There is no reason that you should be worrying about back up engines...these things will usually last 200,000 miles and still run good. Most common things that fail are the timing chain/gear, rocker shafts, and water pumps......if the engine is well treated, and one stays away from detonation.

You appear to have an experienced guy locally, talk to him.

In the meantime, read all the tech articles on gnttype.org and on my site. Try to learn something about these cars, and, it will help you save a lot of money down the road.
