| Is my hotwire kit working? I have a hotwire kit (Caspers) for the fuel pump. Is there any way to tell if it is working properly? There is no difference in base fuel pressure if I run the pump off the hotwire harness or the factory wiring. The fuel pressure should rise significantly off the hotwire, right?

| Its not the idle pressure that you need worry. The hotwire kit is designed to help with higher pressures associated with higher boost. I would assume that if it wasn't working your fuel pump would not work? Or am I wrong on this?

| yes you are correct. If the car is running the hot wire is fine ![]()

| ( he posted like 2.4 seconds before me)if your pump is running and the hot wire kit is installed.... it's working., if you are getting knock at higher boost and you didn't before you can try cleaning the connections where the hot wire attaches to the alternator or battery.... where ever your kit ties into... Good luck ![]()

| a hot wire kit is not designed to increase fuel pressure over the level that is set. Its purpose is to supply correct/sufficient voltage to the pump in order that the pump may perform to its ability. I would have to go look at the curves on gnttype.org, but, I think I recall that one volt change in the voltage supplied to the pump will add/substract 15% to the flow of the pump at a given point on the flow curve. Also note that just because one adds more gas does not mean that one can eliminate detonation. Contrary to this, if the pump is not receiving enuf voltage to maintain the one additional pound of fuel pressure per each additional pound of boost, then one can certainly encounter detonation as the A/F leans out as compared to what the car is expecting. Meaning that making the A/F richer than required may not prevent detonation as octane is also required (or a cooler combustion chamber) while leaning the mixture down by not being able to maintain a given A/f will almost certainly create detonation. I bet that is really clear, eh? ![]()
