More tech articles

I want to re-do my front suspension. I have the tools and the inclination, but not the techical know-how. I've always wondered why we don't have more tech articles on this website. While we all value gnttype.org, even there the tech info is pretty limited. Why aren't there more "how to's"? The Sticky section is a good start, but why not write more articles? It would also provide a great on-going forum for tips and ideas. And know-nothings like me wouldn't have to keep asking the same questions over and over. Even if you do a search, though there is lots of info, there is never a step-by-step procedure for any of the jobs we commonly do. Steve's site is great too, but it doesn't cover everything and he's too old to do it alone.

I'm not being critical, but with all the experience and brainpower we have on this forum, it would seem to me that we should have a larger library of tech articles. I know it's a lot to ask of you experienced guys, but it sure would help a lot of people.

I am not too old to do the suspension alone, however!

The net, books, mags, etc. are full of such articles if you would do a little research. This site is aimed at turboBuick specific information-not general mechanics. Go to the bookstore and buy a few books that cover the generalities.

Spend a few bucks on the shop manual cd. It covers 99% of your questions.

It is precisely because this forum is dedicated to turbobuicks that I am suggesting this. I have the shop manuals but, as you know, they are written for Buick mechanics. They contain just enough info to get the novice in trouble. The gnttype website is so time-honored because it has tech info and, most importantly, how to articles.
I am suggesting something written for us novices. More importantly, it would provide a forum for detailed suggestions and ideas and, unlike gnttype, it could include pictures. The articles that Mike and others have written in the sticky section are great and the pictures are invaluable. I know for you experienced guys this seems like a tedious idea, but the truth is most of the guys who use this forum would read the how to articles and use the info. We could start with an article by Steve and Ed entitled "How to rebuild your front suspension and live to talk about it."

No need to reinvent the wheel like Steve said. Most of the procedures are covered in shop manuals. You don't need me to tell you how to remove upper control arms. It's the same on all G bodies and in a $8.95 book you can buy at Autozone. But these books can't help when issues are tuning, performance or Turbo Buick only. This is where these sites come into play up to a point. You will get many suggestions on how to do it. It's up to you to figure out what's best.

I agree with Chris and this is why I started the Technical articles section. Most of the articles in there are from me, and the lack of articles is a direct reflection of my free time.

If someone wants to add technical articles please volunteer! I only ask that they are uniform in appearance to the current ones. If someone has Front Page I can supply the template and someone can go at it. You would be in charge of contacting folks for article information and then creating the article for the web site.

Speaking of needing help, I need a 'manager' for this new email system I built. You will be in charge of all the mailboxes and email questions the users might have. I also will need you to spend an initial hour of your time converting the old TurboBuicks.com mailboxes to the new email system. I can show anyone how to do it, it's very easy but very repetitive. After the conversion things should be smooth sailing and everyone can enjoy Web mail.

I'll make another thread soon to find some help. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks!
