To AC delete or not???

I read that deleting the AC system was only 25 lbs of weight savings. That just doesnt seem right. I have been contempleting getting rid of it but Im not sure. Im leaning toward keeping it but the car is a weekend warrior/track car. I would kinda suck though to not hav ethe defrost.......
At least I have an AC delete plate in case I need it

Compressor and freon should be around 30lbs. If you removed everything including ac/heater box it would be near 50lbs weight savings.

The complete heater box assembly has to be at least 30 lbs.

Regardless of weight, removing the A/C will free up some room on the engine and in the engine compartment making it easier to work on the car.

Black cars get awful hot inside in the middle of the summer. The A/C delete plate radiates a lot of heat from the down pipe as well. A good friend of mine has his a/c removed in his regal (GN motor) and its pretty miserable in the summer time. We mocked up a non A/C heater box and it didnt really save any room over an a/c box. It was pretty heavy too. If its a race car that never sees the street then sure, take the a/c out. Id leave it all intact, but then again I have a street car, not a race car.

I like my A/C, the weight does not bother me all that much.

If it was a drag only car yes but if I spent ANY time on the street I would keep the A/C.

50# and give up ac on a car that is not a strip only car? Why butcher it? It will definitely hurt the resale value as well.

if you decide to delete you can get the defroster /heater from summit that will work

the factory heaater only box doesnt give much more access than the A/C box , my 86 has the delete plate and i thought about switching , i have all the stuff from a heat only car and I mocked it up and I would still have to pull the motor to do gaskets with the studded heads and still fight with the #6 plug.
before i would go that route i would put an a/c box back in with foam sealer against the firewall instead of the butyl caulk and leave out the hard to get bolts (plug the holes) this way i could easily pull it off to access the head and have good heat and defrost ,

that delete cover looks nice but also looks like you would need to pull the motor for gaskets with studded heads
