took the mufflers off of my car..now people are tellin me im doomed.

i took the mufflers off of my car because they were so bad that i litterlly reached up inside the hole in the muffler an took out the inside..so i just took them off an now the car is as loud as it was with those mufflers on it because they were so bad lol..but now it sounds better because there is no rattle..i still have a cat on the car so its actually not that loud at all..maybe a lil tiny bit louder then my mom's stock 98 mustang GT(at idle and normal driving conditions)...but now i am gettin told. "not good, cool air with backpressure gets sucked back into the heads, and you could possibly warp a valve, not to mention with no back pressure. your car will run like ****" so um..is this true? i mean i still have a cat on the car so im sure thats enough backpressure and doesn' thte turbo also create backpressure?? and i mean how do guys get away with runnin open headers if this is the case??

oh yea i am going to get mufflers on it when i get the money..im only 18 an savin up for another car..so money isn't fallin off of the trees if u know what i mean lol

I think what they meant to say is that you will run leaner. Hope you have a scan tool because your going to have to give it more fuel since your flowing much more than before.

O2 and Knock Retard are the readings that appear as soon as you start the car

I assume this is a stock engine were dealing with

at idle your scanmaster O2 reading will bounce around from 200 to 600 or somthing like that

when you mash the gas you want to see 750 to 800 or more on the 02 reading and 0 Knock Retard...

if you have Knock retard or the o2 readings are below the 700s turn up the fuel pressure a bit if you have an adjustable regulator if not... buy mufflers...

good luck

I've heard that for years about warping valves. My argument, how do all those Harley's get by with short pipes and no mufflers?

I think maybe the story about warped valves came from the 50s, or before. But where ever it came from, it did NOT apply to any engine with a turbocharger! Real, real hard for air to get "sucked up" through the turbo. As to a Harley, how would you know when it had a warped valve? When it idled rough? When it got noisy? When it made less power than Suzuki?

I have never seen warped valves due to cool air rushing back into the head. I've ran open long tubes and short exhaust on a few race cars. This COULD happen if your running an open shorty header, but these are turbo cars, so that will not be the case. No worrys aobut the warped vavles.

my car has 36lb blue tops..does this affect those readings?
