What are we ALL doing wrong here? This guy claims to have gone 11.70's @ 118 on the STOCK TURBO ?!?!?

Check it out! http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/recipes/Stockwell.html

Are we all just insane for buying cams, heads, big turbos and all the other widgets??

Is this guy for real?

I am adding the "Tim Stockwell" recipe to my signature!!!

Yes, he is for real. He worked very heavily with Red Armstrong. Red can make anything fly short of having wings.

My friend here in Des Moines followed his recipe and ran 11.1's with a bone stock long block w/32 psi of boost. Almost 1.4 60ft times. Only thing different was the intercooler. He ran a CAS front mount vs the stretch stock location.

My friend also easily ran 11.50's with blue tops and a TA-49 before running out of fuel.

Stockwells car was truly amazing! I also always had a problem with how fast it ran with a stock turbo too. I know anything is possible, but wow!

Very , Very fast car with very little in parts for its time.

He must have been doing something that no one else knows about. Usually things like that can be duplicated. Records are made to be broken. Yes, I believe he done those times but if it is so easily done with hardly any upgrades I would suspect he would have a lot of people follow in his foot steps.

I remember reading somewhere on the net about extensive port work and a multitude of little tricks not visible.

There is also Orlando Granda in Miami who is running 10's with I believe a stock block and turbo. He is however, pushing insane amounts of boost. I read 40# !!!!!

Anyone else want to try it??

Orlando was and may still be running a T64 turbo, not stock, I think he was running 009's with two 55lbers in the up pipe and 40 psi of boost. Rumor has that the line off pressure ia around 60 for fuel pressure. It was a stock block apparently and has gone 10.0's but I don t know if its still together.

I m interested in Stockwells recipe due to my TTA project. I believe in my opinion anyways that there are things he hasn t told anyone. Basically stock eliminators tricks I would bet. Porting that you can t see, via acid ruffing the ports afterward. Major boost and maybe oxygen bearing fuel, like nitro methane mixing is how I would do it.

Orlando Granda broke an exhaust rocker, thats the only thing that stopped him from the nines with his old combo. Now he has roller rockers, Rick Harpers old 76 turbo (Rick went to the 88) and bigger injectors. No doubt the boost will be turned up for 9's.

Cool

And I still believe in the tooth fairy...
If you guys want to believe that bs thats up to you back in 96 when ts ran that magic 10.76 we ran the same time with PTE front mount PTE63 big shaft turbo with m&a heads with a stock bottem end... We ran 22pds of boost to get there.....I feel if he really did what he says that others would be doing the same.... Well its been almost 5 years and no one has come close so... I think I will go to bed and wait for the tooth fairy..

I wish

The best I ran with stock turbo was 7.77@89 in the 1/8th mile (12teen 1/4's). but I don't have Iron Cojones like Tim Stockwell and only ran 20 psi of boost(stock injectors didn't help matters either). Stevemon ran 11.98@113 with the stock turbo with more boost and a much nicer car than mine.

Boost can do amazing things and leaving the line with amazing amount of boost can do incredible things. My hat is off to Tim for being a pioneer at pushing the limits, so we can follow behind and poke at the limits.

Well, thats alot of MPH for a stock turbo right.I've gone 11's at 112-113mph and TTA89 went like 116,but both of those are in T/A's so thats a real acomplishment to go 118 with a stock turbo in a TR.

Sorry UNGN,

I thought you posted that you did some high 11s awhile back on the other board.

My mistake.

Mike, Tim Stockwell did go very fast with that car and not very many people can do what he did without pushing your car to the limit and not caring if it breaks. He was locking up the converter all the way through to run and running at least 30psi if not more.I think he made a comment about being around 35psi on the final 10 sec. passes and he did break something. My point is, you can go very fast if you are willing to push it. Myself I cannot afford to push my car to the breaking point just to have an outrageous time slip.

I ran high 11's@ almost 114 back in 1990 stock motor, intercooler, turbo injectors 1.59 60ft.21psi 108RA chip, full weight,80 degree temp. So it's not too hard for me to believe his numbers.Good cold dense northern air,15lb. launch,Red Armstrong living around the corner from you supplying you with a handfull of near perfect chips and lots of tuning tips. Also i don't think Tim Stockwell was a newcomer to the quarter mile at that point having had other street strip cars and he was'nt afraid to beat on that car to within a .10th of it's life!

Ok, now I am going to adopt the "6Pack" recipe... I want to know how you guys did it...

I see Tim says in the bottom of the recipe, it's all in the chip.. Are we talking mega timing here ?? Like 30* plus?
