Just got back from the track, what do you think?

I just got back from the track. I was running 13-14.5 pounds of boost on American Racing Eagle Alloys 17'' chrome wheels with 275/50/17 nitto 450 street tires. I also did a no boost launch because when I left with 5 psi I almost hit the wall, lol. I also don't really have a tune on it except for adjusting my fuel pressure, tps, and iac. Therefore I put 112 race gas in there just to be safe from detonation due to our crappy 91 gas we get out here.

1st run:
R/T- .346
60'- 2.190
330- 5.960
1/8- 9.099
mph-79.34
1000-11.874
1/4- 14.209
mph- 97.44

3rd run:
R/T- .297
60'- 2.321
330- 6.098
1/8- 9.221
mph- 79.69
1000-11.975
1/4- 14.293
mph- 97.36

4th run:
R/T- .282
60'- 2.307
330- 6.074
1/8- 9.191
mph- 79.80
1000-11.939
1/4- 14.252
mph- 97.59

Another thing I would like to add is that this car got the most attention of any other car out there. I was also the only GN at the track today. I always constantly had 2-3 people asking me to pop the hood every 10 minutes. However, I hate that I ran it stock because the car is a "legend" as the announcer said, and he was hyping everyone up and I saw the people get on their feet to watch me. He said "Hey guys and gals, you better watch this grand national, it's gonna put on a show, trust me." As I heard that I was embarrassed, I wish I used window chalk and just wrote "BONE STOCK" all over my windows. After I ran the 14.2 everyone was coming up to me and asking if something was wrong with my car and I had to tell them that I was running factory boost at 13-14 lbs, and give them a lecture on why they can run so fast and blah blah. Also, on my 2nd run I was lined up against an SRT-4 and the crowd started cheering and getting on their feet again. So I was pumped up and ready to out launch him and take him. I stalled it and got about 5-6 lbs of boost but I made the mistake of slamming the pedal to the floor and I spun like mad and started to go sideways around the 330 mark. I was so dissapointed too, but the reason I messed up is because I was so pumped up that I forgot to focus on my launch and ended up with like a 2.5 60'. I almost caught him though, if only there was a little more track. Oh well, what a shame I guess.

well tomorrow is another day .... why race gas with 13-14#s of boost ??? that may have hurt you to . why only run low boost when you go to the track ??

next time more boost and good tires would have made a nicer run

The car ran extremely well for the boost you were running. With sticky tires those times would be way into the 13s which aon't bad at all for that low boost!

Well I ran the low boost because I don't have a knock gauge or a scanmaster and I didn't want to mess anything up. I also ran some race gas because it has a 93 chip in it and the best gas we get out here is 91, so I figured due to the advanced timing of the 93 it would help and be safe. I also know that the 17'' wheels on street tires isn't the best choice but I just barely got the car a month ago and just finished the spring cleaning last weekend so I didn't have time to order centerlines with MT DR's. And I need to get a scanmaster and a knock gauge so I can monitor my knock while I turn up the boost. That's another reason why I didn't want to turn it up, because I didn't know if it was knocking or not. And I believe I have an adjustable wastegate because the rod is threaded and can be shortened or lengthened but I didn't remember which way to turn it to shorten it, plus I didn't know how much of a turn was 1lb increase or decrease so I left it as long as it could be.

I would have to say you are pretty damn wise for a 17-year-old. Most fellas your age would just get in and not care.

It sounds like you have an adjustable wastegate. The shorter the rod the more boost you will run. If you have your stock wastegate just measure the length of the rod and adjust your adjustable wastegate to that length. That way you have a starting point. If you do not have a stock wastegate for comparison I believe the stock length was 5 1/4". I mark my actuator with a Sharpie so I know how many turns I make. One turn shorter is roughly one pound of boost.

A Scanmaster is must for these cars. I would continue with your process and not do anything drastic with power until you have a way of seeing and recording knock.

Good Luck

Thanks for the comment. A scanmaster and some Mickey Thompson DR's hooked up to Centerlines is being ordered as we speak. I have another question about my runs. I only gained about 18 mph in the second 1/8th of the quarter, doesn't that seem a bit low? Do you think it's my valvesprings not letting my rpms climb?

You should list all your modifications in your signature so people have an idea of what you have. Its makes giving suggestions easier, no reason to reinvent the wheel.

Yes it could be valve springs. Try to care of the problem at the lowest level. Do you have an upgraded fuel pump, adjustable fuel regulator, or a volt booster? What kind of injectors are you running? What kind of Chip? How many miles on the engine? Much more information about the car is needed before troubleshooting the falling off at the top end. If the car is pulling hard all the way through the quarter then things are good. It is just going to take more track time and some fine-tuning.
