Post Caspers knock gauge. Please help.

As simple as the instructions are on hooking this up, I've got a problem. My OTC4000E has shown me up to 10 degrees of k. retard while the recently installed gauge shows nada. I tested the gauge per Caspers advice. With the key on, I touched the power connection & the sender connection (one going to ecm) with a paper clip & the gauge lights don't light up at all. I have power to the gauge because the green power light comes on. I spent today tracing the wiring & I don't see a problem. The sending wire is hooked up to the yellow/black stripe wire. It's soldored good & wrapped in electrical tape. I even checked the connection again today. I connected the wires to the gauge EXACTLY like the instructions say. Is it possible that the gauge & the OTC moniter can read different amounts of knock retard? I figured the gauge would at least aknowledge something when my scan tool shows 10 friggin degrees! Anyone have any suggestions for the guy who can't even hook up a simple knock gauge?

I forgot to mention that this is the second gauge from Caspers. I informed him that I couldn't get the originally purchased one to work. He kindly sent out this one that very day. He said he would test it first. Oh Lord, do I need help.

I don't know if you did anything wrong.
I just hooked mine up today. I used the scotch lock connectors, no solder. I get 1-2 green lights at startup and it resets after 4-5 seconds. Took it for a test drive and got 1 green light on the 1-2 shift.
Where did you hook up the power and ground?

Sorry for the late reply Jeff. The ac in my house went on the fritz right after my post, so I've been trying to get that working. The power for the gauge is hooked up to one of the ignition switches in the fuse box. I don't remember exactly which. The ground is right where my other gauge's grounds are, to the left of the fuse box right under the dash. I can look at it in a bit & explain in more detail. I will go out on a limb & say that if you got a green light on your gauge at the shift, yours should be working. I do know that that it is common to get a blip or two during shifts. HTH

I dunno.
The only difference I can tell is that I hooked up the + and - to the wiring harness on the ecm. I wouldn't think that it would matter but who knows?

I haven't had the chance to mess with it the last couple days. I do know that I've got power to the gauge & the sender wire does have a good connection to the yellow/black wire in the ecm. I've pulled double time at work since Sunday so I'll check everything out again this weekend coming up. TurboDave mentioned that the OTC's sometimes show double the amount of knock retard compared to other scan tools. Even if this is true, I believe the knock gauge should have registered something when the OTC registers 10 degrees. Thanks for checking. I'll post what I find.

I got the gauge working today. I pulled the wires off of the gauge, recrimped them, & made sure everything was hooked up correctly. I tapped on the block near the knock sensor, & it set off the gauge. I hooked up my OTC & took it for a ride. I believe I'm getting false knock from somewhere but the gauge does work. Thanks to all who replied.
