4.1 vs 3.8
Just a little info I ran into on my build. The production 4.1 uses a different size cam bearing than the 3.8. I found out the hard way and now I have to wait for the 4.1 cam bearings to come in which is holding up the assembly of my engine. Anyway be prepared for this if you are going to build a 4.1.

Appearantly the difference is in the years. The cam bearing that were to big to go in were for a 20 bolt pan 3.8. The bearing that fit are for a 14 bolt pan 3.8 or 4.1.

is the inside diameter the same? as in same cam!!

86 grand national 2nd owner t tops, digital dash and few other options. bone stock no mods(yet!!) brought back from the dead. new paint and interior 85 regal t type clone, blue in and out , carb. turbo stock engine , no ecm, msd btm,holley blue fuel pump, 650 holley double pump carb. 3.73 gear with mini spool,all the gauges, stock trans and conv. slow but fun!!

Yes. Its the fitment of the bearing into the block that was the problem. The 20 bolt blocks take a bearing with a larger OD.
