Fast Help Needed

I just washed my car and on the way home while I was cruising at around 90 Km/hr the car shut off. The car will not start, just turns over. I have swapped the chip with no luck. Any suggestions? I don't want to have it towed, it is only a mile away from my house.

Steve Wood posted this on an earlier thread....

"It may have a maf problem, but it should run with it disconnected, so------------

Does it have spark, does have injector pulse, does it have fuel pressure?

Did you look at the crank sensor and see if the bracket broke?

Did you pull the cap off the cam sensor to see if the wheel is still attached and does not have the locating tab broke off?"

Sounds like something got wet during the car wash, it may be
worth taking a look at the fuses you might have one blown for the ECM or fuel pump, etc.

It's easy to check fuses, doesn't cost anything but a few minutes
of time.

I'm just not a believer in coincidences.

I have owned one of these cars since 1988 when i bought a new
GN. And i drive them hard and used to put a lot of miles on,and
have never broken a cam sensor tab that everyone talks about,
but have replaced them when suspect due to making noise with
ones from AutoZone. maybe that's why.

May well be the fuse but I've had mine since 88 & the original Cam Sensor tab broke 2 months ago! This is a 2K mile a year car that goes to the track as well. I also know these cars & when they break like this it can usually be traced to those 2 things but Do Check the Fuses First!! If all OK then start looking at the Cam & Crank Sensors. The age of them is why they break! Good Luck!

I ended up towing it home the hillbilly way with a rope. It could be the cam sensor for I just finished adjusting it before I went for the wash. How do I check if it is the crank sensor?

This information might have been more useful in helping you
with the problem, if you had mentioned it in the beginning
when you started the thread.

I agree now, check the cam sensor!!

I pulled the cap off the cam sensor and everything looks good. I also probed the blue wire as I turned it over and the voltage was switching fine. There is nothing visibly wrong with the crank sensor (if the crank sensor is at fault will I visibly be able to tell?). I double checked my fuses and everything looks fine there as well. I'm guessing it is something stupid and simple but I am kind of lost. Any other suggestions?

Do you have injector pulse?

Injector pulse is about 14.5 ms while it is cranking (on DS). Anything else I can check for?

Not sure if that is a valid test, or not....does the injector harness pulse a noid light, or a meter?

Does the tach move when you crank the engine over?

Did you screw up the coolant temp sensor\harness during the car wash? Scan tool reading on coolant temp would eliminate that possibility. Default ecm temp value is really low (below zero, I believe), causes overly rich condition, and may stall a car out and may prevent a car from starting, and may NOT throw a code. Ask me how I know.
