A Couple of Turbo Buick Questions

Hello All,

I have been contemplating getting a turbo buick for some time now and have a few general questions about them.

1. Would there be any benefit to running a thin electric fan mounted to the intercooler as opposed to nothing at all (either stock intercooler or modified)?

2. What is the quickest (ET/mph) turbo buick you have seen on pump gas no alki injection?

3. In addition to #2, I.E. What would a turbo buick with say a t60 or so turbo, upgraded stock location intercooler, matched torque converter and all the usual mods run on pump gas?

4. What makes the turbo buick different from say a single Supra in top end 1/4 mile mph? I know the supra has a totally different engine. It seems as though the Turbo buicks are more like low revers which make their power lower in the rpm range and fall off as the rpms increase. Thus decreasing the mph as opposed to say a single turbo supra.

Thanks for looking and any info you can provide. Hopefully, within the next year I'll be getting a turbo buick as a street cruiser.

Matt

For number 1..If you run the stock intercooler location..there is a small, crank driven fan behind the IC. Not sure if you are aware of this.

Probably not.

2. What is the quickest (ET/mph) turbo buick you have seen on pump gas no alki injection?

FWIW my sled went 12.4 @ 107 back in the day on pump gas and stock turbo.

3. In addition to #2, I.E. What would a turbo buick with say a t60 or so turbo, upgraded stock location intercooler, matched torque converter and all the usual mods run on pump gas?

Somewhere around 12.0 @ 112?

4. What makes the turbo buick different from say a single Supra in top end 1/4 mile mph? I know the supra has a totally different engine. Areodynamics, gearing, weight will all play a factor

I think the head(s)/cam(s) in the Supras and TRs are way different. I have seen some very fast single turbo Supras but their turbo lag is awful. Wheras TRs are at full boost before the 60' mark, I have seen some Supras still spooling up past the 330' mark. If you want to go really fast and have a lot of money, go with a Supra. If you want to be quick - especially stop light to stop light and don't have bottomless pockets get a TR and use a relatively inexpensive 12 second recipe.
