| Moderator/Procrastinator | I seem to be having an issue with my Scanmaster, I hooked it up to my friends car and when we go key on, it lights up for a second, shows "21" then the display goes blank. We've verified the wiring and we know we have good power and ground, showing a solid 13.3 volts, and the unit was working last season on my own car. I'm not sure if the "21" represents the software version of the Scanmaster (2.1), or if it has detected code 21 - TPS too high. Has anyone else had this problem before? I thought if the Scanmaster detected a code, it would display it and then start working normally regardless. Is it a code that needs to be cleared? My next steps were to check TPS voltage, clear the MALF codes, and then try again. Any other ideas?

| I had a similar problem with mine and I had checked and double checked all three wires and was about ready to send it in for repairs but decided to check it one last time, but this time I cleaned the connections and reconnected the wires and it has been working good ever since, that was over a year ago. | Moderator/Procrastinator | I just added a lighter plug adapter for my Scanmaster, so that should fix any problems with power/ground as it is a known working unit. My girlfriends Cavalier powered it up fine. I also used a 1/8" spade connector on the ALDL connection to rule out bad contact, will give it another go. Thanks for the info!

| Mmmmm....Kool Aid | When it turns on and flashes 2.1 that isa the version number and shows us the self test has completed and the unit si working. It turns off while it is waiting for data from the ALDL. It is getting not data from the computer. Either the computer is bad or the connection to it is bad but the power and ground are fine Mike

| Is the SM plugged into the correct place in the ALDL? The reason I ask is that I had the same problem and then found out that my ALDL was mounted upside down. ![]()

| Moderator/Procrastinator | Thanks for the info, Mike, I'm going to try it with my spade connector and see if it makes a better contact on the ALDL connector. I know it worked fine on my car last season, and it's been in a climate-controlled environment since then, so I didn't think that would be the cause.
