Some Test Results

Over the last couple of months I switched from a 8.8 rear with a torque arm to a Mustang 4-link setup. I also freshened up the shortblock with some CP pistons, Eagle rods and new valves but left the head untouched. After months of tranny agony, I finally got to test it last night. My goal was to just do some 60' launches but I had a senior moment and forgot to turn on the boost controller. Next pass it left like a raped ape but immediately spun so I had to get out it. So much for only testing 60', as I laid back into it and ran it out the back door. Did not expect much of an ET and got a 9.71 but 153.98mph with 122.16 at the 1/8-mile!

It went a little lean on the top-end and when I got to the return road it stalled and ran like crap back to the pits. Determined cyl #6 was the culprit and had a buddy tow me home thinking I lifted the head. Turns out the electrode burned right off the #6 plug. Think I got lucky but will do a compression test soon.

Looked at the video and it lifted the left front hard, twisted the car and unloaded one of the rear tires. Need to add an anti-roll bar. While the 9.71 seemed "sluggish", it ran the 2nd half in 3.188 which is definitely hi-8s territory. Also 153.98mph and 3015# factors out to about 860rwhp. With a better tuneup and a couple more psi boost, it has potential

60' - 1.724
330' - 4.489
1/8 - 6.525 @ 122.16
1000' - 8.254
1/4 - 9.713 @ 153.98

Not a bad baseline I would say, considering I might have run the last 100' on 5 cyls. I will see if I can get video loaded up.

YouTube - 2JZ-Powered RX7 FC - Test Launch

BTW, intent was to capture just the launch and I caught the person filming off guard.

That was a pretty violent launch!

Wow scott that things insane!

Still running stock cams? How high are you reving it? What gear U using? Still using the old school T72/p-trim? What boost? Still on alky and pump gas?

I actually know of a low mileage JDM 2jzge motor here locally for $600. My NA stock long block 2j made 520whp at 29psi with te45a. Crazy power from cheap motors! Keep us in the loop!

Until recently I was running the stock longblock with 272 cams and the T72/p-trim. I freshened up the shortblock with an inexpense CP piston/Eagle rods kit, all ARP hardware, new SS valves and better springs but left the head untouched. I used to shift at 7,000 and now I upped it to a conservative 7,800 until I feel more comfortable. The turbo is now a PTE-76GTS with a .96 exh housing and that pass was at 28.5psi max. Most Supra's with this combo run upwards of 35psi. I plan to sneak up on it but don't see me running that much. I still run Razor's alky kit (never leave home w/o it ) and a 65rwhp shot nitrous. Used to run a 3:1 pump gas to 110 mix and upped it to 50/50 now. Yup, turbo, nitrous and alky. What a rush!

PTC converter, Extreme Automatics (Lonnie Deirs) TH400 with a Griner VB, Mustang 8.8 with 3.08s. Started out with 3.27s and went to the 3.08s to calm the car down on the launch. As you can see, the car is leaving much calmer now but the anti-roll should really help.

Nice work Scottie. 2010 is going to be an interesting year!

What RPM are you going thru the traps at with the 154mph pass?

With 35psi (another 7-10mph in the 1/4) what RPM's do you think you'll be reaching? Very very impressive.
