| Don't give up yet !!! Try looking for something else. Here are a few examples that you could probably find cheap - Fox bodied Mustang, Nova, S-10, RX-7, 240, 260, 280-Z. I can tell you what is available here locally and you could search E-Bay for what is available in your area. Mustang - They are CHEAP and there are lot's of em. Plenty of aftermarket parts that you can pick up used. They have good rear ends with a wide array of gear ratios that can be bought cheap. All around good choice IMO. Nova - If you find a later model like a 75-77 you could get it fairly cheap. I think they come with 8.5 rear ends (But not sure.)so you could get a GM posi and a set of 3.42's or 3.73's from someone on one of the GN sites, and best of all who in the heck wants to steal that year Nova !? Plus cheap insurance. Woo-Hoo !!! S-10- They can be bought right but plus there is a guy on here doing an S-10 swap and he has stated that he would help with tech info as I have a freind that will be doing one soon. The only down side that I can think of is the puney 7.5 rear. I would think that would have to be replaced when you start putting serious power to it. On the flip side I have two freinds that have N20 powered small block in theirs (One is a P/U and one is a S-10 Blazer). The P/U runs 11-teens at 120-mph plus and the other is a mid 11 sec ride. They have been beating on them of a couple of years each with no breakage. Now they will probably break something and it will be my fault. Haha. RX-7's and the 240-280's - They can be bought for a decent price and there are some guys on here with a HEAP of info on those swaps. From what I have been reading and from looking at their sites they really know their stuff too. That always helps. Well there are a couple of options for you to contemplate, but don't give up as you will most likely be kicking yourself later. It sounds like you are getting the "Impatient Working Stiff Blues". I have been there myself and sometimes I walk out into the garage and get them again when I realize that 2 of my cars are down at one time. On the flip side my girl is the one that drove over the crank in my GN so that isn't really my fault. Hehe. I wonder if anyone needs a two piece crank over in the "Parts For Sale" BB? Haha. Take care and for goodness sakes, keep the faith and don't sell. Jim C. |

| I agree with Jim. Don't give up yet! Look for something else and set a goal of 3000lbs. You will be shocked! at the performance of this drivetrain in a lighter car. Definitely worth the wait. ------------------ Scottie's GNZ 71 240Z/GN Power/Corvette IRS

| I don't know about the 3000 # limit I'm still thinking about an f-body 2nd 3rd or even a 4th gen I think the main reason I'm getting discouraged is because I have a lot of money wrapped up in Turbo Buick parts and I haven't gotten to enjoy it like I said before the 87 GN that I had was the cheapest car I could find so I spent most of the time fixing it and very little time driving it and now in my mind this swap idea is also going to cost a lot of money and be a pain in the ass and I'll have to go another yr without enjoying the investment in parts so i thought I would just buy another GN put my engine in and finally enjoy it for the time being I'm looking for a firebird and I'm checking out prices on GN's so it all depends on if I find something I like ------------------ 87 Gn drivetrain waiting for a home searching for 70 to 73 firebird or trans am 92 Talon TSI 12 second awd car goes in the snow

| Hey "Thrills" I just aquired a 68 2-door Dart today for a whopping $300.00. It needs floorpans but other than that it would be a great candidate for a TR swap and think about the "Sleeper" image. Woo-Hoo !!! If you are interested in it I would be glad to pass it on to you and it can sit in the garage until you are ready to pick it up if ya like. I have the original bill of sale that I would pass on to you so that you can see there is no mark-up. If you are interested let me know. I needs some paint and minor stuff but a swap like that would remind me of the November 2002 issue of Car Craft. There is a feature on a 65 Skylark that is just plain B-A-D !!! So let me know. Until then take care and keep the faith. Jim C. P.S-Hell if ya get the floor pans I'll weld em in for ya. They are $65.00 a piece for a total of $130.00. |

| Registered User | There's a Pontiac swap that I always wanted to try...'80 Sunbird with a GN motor. We had one that came with a 4 cylinder, yanked that out, put in an n/a 3.8 with all the stock stuff (since that engine came in the cars) ran that for a couple years, then yanked that out and stuffed a '64 Buick Skylark 300 cu.in V8 in. That was a pretty fun set up. We had the car down to 2500lbs, imagine that with a GN motor. Options are limitless, you already have the most expensive part of the project. If you want, I have another Spitfire frame and a GT6 body that you can have, then there'd be two out there...under 2000lbs FAST!!! ------------------ 1969 Triumph GT6 4.1 w/GN turbo set up, '99 Camaro T56 6 speed, and a Jag indepentent rear (inboard discs...NICE) Hopefully road ready by July. | Registered User | Na, '80 Sunbirds were the last year of the rear wheel drive. That's why it was so easy to swap in the Buick V8, which BTW is exactly the same as the 3.8 with 2 more cylinders. ------------------ 1969 Triumph GT6 4.1 w/GN turbo set up, '99 Camaro T56 6 speed, and a Jag indepentent rear (inboard discs...NICE) Hopefully road ready by July.

| I just posted your pics and after seeing your frame and suspension setup, traction should be no problem as long as you do not try to run anything but slicks. Strong recommendation from Day1: Make Nitto DRs be your everday street tire on the rear. Driving that car on the street with plain radials is asking for trouble unless you wire the wastegate wide open. Like I said, if you run slicks, traction is not a problem. Where you need to focus is aerodynamics and gearing especially if the engine stock and a mild stocker is all you need. By my estimate you need less than 400rwhp to go 10.0 @ 136+. My suggestion would be to get a converter that can hold up to being locked under race condition, lock it at the line and hold on. Cripes. I am salivating just writing this ------------------ Scottie's GNZ 71 240Z/GN Power/Corvette IRS
