| Resident Idiot | After looking at some 4 speed aftermarket shifters for the RX-7, it's apparent that most are just too large to fit nicely in the console without some major mods. I came across an factory auto shifter out of a '90 RX-7 that will fit perfect in the factory hole. Here is a picture. Of course it only has 3 speeds and will not work with the 200r4. Then I had this idea of putting a Buick detent plate in place of the Mazda detent plate. This would facilitate the use of all 4 gears. I also plan in relocating the original cable mounting point to ensure it has the same amount of throw that the Buick shifter originally provided. Here is a picture of the Buick Stage-Rite detent. I think with some time and energy, the stock Mazda shifter can be transformed into a 4speed shifter and still look pretty mild. Of course it will be hit or miss on the lighted gear selector. It may be as easy as making my own gear sticker or finding some 4 speed gear selector parts in the junk yard. Am I reinventing the wheel here? Is there an easier way to do this that I am just not thinking of? Any thoughts will be appriciated. ------------------ Stock Block, Stock Cam, PTE-52, Champion Heads, V4, MSD50's, TH DP, JayJackson 62mm TB, 16position MaxEffort Chip. 3680# with Driver 12.0 @ 116.5mph w/20psi using 17.9* timing mailto:mike@TurboBuicks.commike@TurboBuicks.com</A>

| I know I read where one of these swaps used an auto RX7 and retained the stock shifter. This is why I looked around and waited until I found an automatic. I thought it was 'RX-7' but I guess we will wait and see. I'm not that far along yet but will be catching up pretty soon. Hank

| I found it. RX-6 posted that he was going to build a web site and that converting the auto shifter would be part of it. That thread is located about 10 post below this one. Hank
