| Beat an AMG G55 - one fast SUV The son and I were out "tuning" his car at a few stop lights near our house the other day. The procedure goes something like this. Dad (or son) driving, while the other one has the laptop in his lap watching for knock or any other funny stuff. Him "How was that?" Me "No knock, lets try some more boost/timing" and on it goes. . . Well, we're sitting at a light holding some boost, this big black SUV starts power braking next to us. Keep in mind, the GN has NO EXHAUST, so we can't hear much of anything. We didn't even think it was going to be a contest, but this big mountain of metal actually stayed pretty close. We only pulled a little over a car on him by 70 MPH. We both backed off after that. Very impressive. I know he would have gotten us at the track, since we've only been able to muster a 13.4 @ 103 and I know that thing is faster than that, but off the line it's hard to beat a GN on the street. I wanted to shout "you just got beat by a six!" or "we've only got 4 grand in this car!" But after thinking about it, if he has the money to afford an 100k AMG, he probably doesn't care. It was still fun though. ![]()

| Nope. Said AMG on the back, and I saw it at the local grocery store the next day. It's the genuine article, a 2005 AMG G55. I think off the line it's not that fast. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. Pretty impressive for a truck that size.

| The G55 is a giant SUV. This was not the estate wagon or slk coupe. Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG Review and Information

| Ours runs 11.90's at 122 all day long on stock radials with air filter and the air intake splash baffles cut out.... I beleive it has an 11.70 with good gas and DR's.Car is a factory freak and runs stonger than a friends though. And with esp, this thing will cut 1.7 60 fts in the rain.... And yes weve made a few $$$ of the unsuspecting.... |
