| yourself, you can not get a better rebuilder who knows or cares as much as you do ! a engine rebuild is 80% machine work 20% assembly. you can be the best at assembling a engine but if the machine work is not there , it's junk . the engine I just assemblied I purchased off of a list member who had the machine work done by a shop who has a good rep with these engines . He thought so and is pretty knowledgeable . so I have my fingers crossed and hope all goes well .Personally the next one I do from scratch . the machine work will be done by "Entec Racing" and I'll do the assembly myself. I'm a little anal putting these things together having been burnt to many times .also being a clean freak and paying attention to detail helps. power washing the engine twice and using 6-7 cans of "brake clean" on the components is a little over the top , but that's me . there are a few list members on this board that I would feel comfortable doing the assembly as well . one or two of these guys, having been putting together Stage 2 engines with good results. like I stated above , the engine is only as good as the machine work. ![]() Reason going with Entec : Been in the biz for over 35 years .with a proven track record . Don is one of the most anal and fussy to detail people I have met. When you go there on more than one occasion and you see 2 million dollar off-shore Formula 1 boats being brought up there from the States for them to work on and build the engines . You know something must be up .The only reason they did not do my first engine was , I tried to "cheap out" and not pay their prices .Big lesson learened .I got sucked in by someone who " talked the talk but did not walk the walk" and had decent prices. Granted yes .Entec is little more expensive , but you do get what you pay for in the long run .[This message has been edited by KWIKR 1 (edited March 14, 2003).]

| The engine in my 86 GN (the one my dad bought in 1986) was built by Gor-den in New York State. This engine was built in the winter of 1990 - 1991 and was raced extensively until the end of 1995 running a best of 11.38 @ 120.25 mph. This engine has performed flawlessly except when my dad ran a little lean and popped a head gasket. We bracket raced this car and engine and it always performed as expected, that is what you want from an engine that is professionally built. Where ever you take your engine don't push them to hurry up and finish it. Let them do their job and provide you with a solid engine that will run without problems. Good luck, Paul Beal pbeal@sympatico.ca

| Fubar I take it you know someone better in the Hamilton area? Tim is dead on when he says if the machine work is not perfect the motor won't last. I need machining and assembly of the short block done. If it's not done perfect it won't last a minute at 25+ pounds of boost I will throw at it. ------------------ [This message has been edited by 231rush (edited March 15, 2003).] |

| Hey Fubar, Are you on crack?? I don't think that anyone here has posted any prices for work they have had done to their short blocks in this post. If you are simply trying to infer that you don't need a healthy engine rebuilt to run quick, then I agree. The reason that I have a rebuilt engine in my one of my GN's is because I have the original engine under the bench and I had a spare engine to rebuild. Please don't try to tell us that you have never broken anything because I seem to remember reading a post about you breaking down at a race in the states. Have a good day, Paul Beal pbeal@sympatico.ca

| When I have my other spare engine built, it will probably go to a guy out in Leamington. I have seen two board members engines that he has done and both of them seem to run exceptionally well. As long as whoever is doing your engine realizes that it is a Buick with all of our Buick's quirks then you should be O.K.
