Exclamation Failed emissions - HELP

I failed the emission test on the Limited I picked up.

ASM 2525 test (fast idle/simulate driving)
---------------------------------------------
HC ppm - failed with a 144 (limit - 106)
CO% - failed with a 0.74 (limit - 0.59)
NO ppm - passed with a 774 (limit 1164)
RPM - 1180

Curb idle - pass everything

Can someone tell me what the "limits" are for the ASM 2525 (fast idle). I've been told the limits are suppose to be higher!!

The car is completely stock (except for K&N). For my retest... I've put in new plugs (CR43 gapped @ .035), new wires, changed oil, reset TPS to .42/.44 (was between .48 to .52 on my scanmaster & turbolink)

One thing I notice is the my BLM count is hoovering around 148 @ idle. My white TTYPE was always around 128!!! Why is that & what do I need to do to lower it?? wink

Another question... What kind of number would I get if I had a hollow cat. I can't check because the exhuast system is all welded in.

any help would be greatly appreciated... dave

Those limits are correct. Do you have a cat on that thing? If there is it looks like it is gutted. I got mine done last week and my HC ppm reading was 14 The only different thing I did was to put in a stock chip. headbang

Goog luck

They must have lowered the limits. When I got my white TTYPE done at the end of December, I think the limits were:

HC ppm - limit - 124
CO% - limit - 0.67

I don't know if the cat is hollow or not. It's all welded in, there no 4 bolt flange to unbolt & check. I did tap on it and it sounds tingy. Eventually, I'm going to put my 3" DP & hooker exhaust from the TTYPE but I need to get the Limited emission check before my safety certificate expires.

Dave, I am willing to bet that your cat is pooched.

My T blew almost perfectly clean with Blue Tops and an old JC94 Chip... but, it had a B/N 3" 3-way cat. Make sure the gas is clean and that the FP isn't too high.

Good to hear!

And John is heading to court in a month or two IIRC.

He should be fine.

Hey Tim (Granny 2).

I just insured mine with Dominion Insurance under the clssic/collector policy and it had to be only 15 years old.

Price was $270 for appraised value OF $15,500

Had Mike Lanoue do the appraisal for $100.00

Of course, I only drive it to car shows, etc.

fastbuick , i'm keeping a low profile in the back ground asking questions or looking for answers on any post that may interest me . do you have a problem with that ? engines already to be pulled. And arangements have already been made for the engine (block , crank, bearings) to be inspected .Just waiting for some nicer weather . so I maybe up and running sooner than I think .

I've had a few cars ins by Silver Wheels (The Policy Carrier was Lant Ins) . But , I always thought it was a 20 year and older policy only .

Hey Channer,

I believe the limits are different for an 86 car versus an 87 car even thought there isn't any difference in the cars.

The limits for my 86 GN say HC 120, CO 0.67 and NO 1316. Maybe you should email Derek, I believe he knows how to tune these cars so it will pass emissions.

Good luck,
