The money pit!

Man all I wanted to do was fix a leaky front seal and this onion has turned out to have a gazillion layers. Real T's comment of the why not syndrome has been right on the money; and speaking of money, I haven't even added go fast stuff 'cause I want my 84 to remain stock, and I am pushin 2700, not to mention the tools I bought.

Good thing I love this car and my wife still loves me.

When all is said and done and I turn that key it will all be worth it. Sure takes time to take every part as close to bare metal as possible and repaint from self etching primer to final coat. I think I am only going to do this once in my lifetime.

Stupid is as stupid does and I'm not even finished this project and am helping Doug with his 1938 Mercury. Just kidding Doug is a good buddy and I'm havin fun there too. Took 5.5 hours to get the gas tank out - had to drill three of the seven bolts holding it in.

Cars - you gotta lovem!!

I think we are all in the same boat...

The best advice I can give is to destroy any and all invoices for all parts for the car.....

The pain is easier to deal with.......

You got that right Mike. If you sat down and figured out what you've sunk into one of these cars you'd sh!t. Glad I'm divorced.

Better than many others

Ya, I guess the go fassst parts can be pricy. I figure I am pushing four before I am finished and that's for parts at trade rates. I just expected cheaper doin it myself.

Good to hear that some of you have given up keeping track. I have every invoice since I bought the car in October 1988 - best i set a bonfire when I'm done with this rebuild.

I bought my '87 GN new. In 1991 it was totaled by a drunk. All my engine and trans work was always done by Duttwieller and Art Carr and we bought all the best parts for this car.

When I (HAD) to add up all my bills for the insurance claim...I was well into the $50,000 zone on this car.

4 Good things happened with this car:

#1-I paid for this car with my street racing winnings back in the day.
#2-The drunks insurance co. paid out 90% of my (APPRAISED) TOTAL value.
#3-It was enough money to totally restore the car...took three yrs.
#4-And still enough money to buy my Most Optioned GN.

...........and here it is today..........with the Resto.......probably got $75 LARGE into that car !!!

$75,000 divided by 20 years of ownership means this car only cost me $3,750 a year to own.
