In one year I'd like to have a 1983 engine computer

Well, now I know what my job is. I have one year where I'm going to use a Q-Jet and the modified 4.1 intake I've bought from B4Turbo. Then, next summer (after the biannual mandatory inspection) I hope that I will be able to install the turbo kit with everything. But I need the engine computer/brain for that kit. I'm pretty sure this is a 1983. I have seen pages with part numbers, but nothing on a 1983 computer yet. Are they totally year specific there? I have seen one 1984-85, but I don't think I'm up for paying $400 without a cable harness! And that's another thing I'd like to find. Any possibility there? Also what should I put in my standing eBay search? Engine computer? ECM? Or do I need to create several different searches?

Here are two pictures of the engine. There is a blue connection to the carb, and I belive there are only two cables in there. Can that be right?

The blue connector you see is for the mixture solinoid. There will be a whiteish/clear connector on the other side of the carb. As far as the puter I litteraly bought the last remaned one in the contenental US last fall. They don't come up very often. As far as a harness you should be able to use one off an 84-87 G body with a 4.1 engine. They have the knock sensor but not the retard box so you'll need to do some wiring work.
I have a slightly different idea for you if you'd like. You can use the 4.1 intake and do a blow through design. That way The only things you'll have to change is the exhaust manifolds, crossover, and connecting pipe to the convertor. Neither one is easy but to convert the blow through is the easiest.

Looks like an '83 Regal motor to me. NICE!

This might help:
BEFORE BLACK - Evolution of the Buick Turbo V6

An '83 ECM shouldn't be too hard to find. I see 1983 T Types being parted out from time to time. Surely you'll find something within a year.

B4Turbo, I'm not afraid of wiring work. Actually I'm a lot more comfortable with wires than vacuum and mechanics! Give me a wiring diagram (well, I have for that engine), and I can make myself everything that doesn't need a special kind of plug! I have looked at blow through turbos, but isn't that less efficient when it comes to gas mileage? And my first choice will be to get the original carb and stuff running, since I will have all that laying around.

B4Black, I think it's nice too! And I really hope I find the computer somewhere. Please let me know if you see something like that being parted out! Are there any places I should look in addition to eBay and the "for sale" part of the forum?

Interesting! Maybe you two could have a bid war to sell to me! You bid as low as you feel you can go, and I'll buy the cheapest! ;)

Jim might be able to sell the puter to you but I doubt he has the harness. BTW, you'll need both under dash and under hood so it shouldn't be a problem. Not gonna make much of a profit off the harness for you, just trying to help you with it. Have you got the engine yet?

Thanks, I appreciate it! And no, it's still in the shop. I think the crate is built, but I stil haven't got a shipping quote to decide what I'm going to do. Anyway, the urgency has been liftet a bit, I bought a convertible for my wife to use in the meantime. A Renault 19, which is a car you probably have never seen:

I don't think it was ever sold in the US. Very nice, little car. I especially like the raised bits behind the passenger seats. Looks a bit like 50's Jaguars or 60's T-Birds! My wife just loves it, so I think that Starfire's going to be my plaything!

Btw those photos are from Google, it isn't that shiny. But it was pretty cheap. Stereo and rims are rubbish, though. Going to replace those and the drive shafts. Then it's mostly done. Quick fix, unlike the Starfire...

Interesting little car. I understand why she likes it. BTW, did Richard take a look at the intake when he got it? I packed it so there should be no damage and he could use the packaging to ship it to you as well.

I've seen the car. I spent the last couple of years working overseas.
I don't need the ECM, got it from a friend with other carbed stuff. Sitting in the garage with all my other crap.
