HEI Spark Plug Wires

I'm going to get a new set of plug wires. I have some Crane Fire Wires, but no matter what I do, I always pull off at lest one terminal when changing plugs. Now that I've used the second set up (one wire at a time), I thinking of getting some MSD wires.

I measured the original OEM wires (which I kept when I put the Crane wires on). These are off my '83 T Type, but I would suspect they are same for all years with HEI, turbo or not.
  1. 21"
  2. 29"
  3. 21"
  4. 31"
  5. 20
  6. 31

MSD's "custom" set has:
  1. 32"
  2. 32"
  3. 25"
  4. 35"
  5. 27"
  6. 29"
Custom Fit MSD Spark Plug Wire Sets

They are a lot longer and don't come in the red color I want. I think I'll find a set of V8 wires that match better.

Looks like part number 32189 (or 32183 black super conductor) would be a good choice (small block mopar truck).

I still got my Firewires installed from that decade, (those things just don't die).

How many mm's thick are those Mopars?

In fact, we feel so strongly about our Dual Crimp terminals that every factory crimped plug wire is guaranteed not to "pull off" for FIVE years!

That's what I'm probably gonna end up doing. They're already cut perfect, they're numbered, and I think you can get about any color. Taylor 10.5mm I think they are. Don't know if bigger is always better on the wires though. Read somewhere if you are still running stock stuff 8.5 is the biggest you want to go. Not much for ignition info though.

Got the wires on. They are nice, but one was made wrong, (the terminal was too far up in the boot).

The way the distributor is turned effects the way the wires are routed and the length needed. I would up using the two middle sized wires in place of one long and one short.

I recommend getting the Mopar truck set. It will give you more size choices to use. The MSD Buick set will work, but they will be very long. (I guess that's better than being too short.) Not sure how much more the Mopar set is with the two extra wires.

Thumbs up

I think there's a rebate being offered by MSD. Check MSD's Fast Cash for Fast Parts Rebate!
