| I run a DIY kit. When it didn't provide enough alcohol, I added a second. With two, I could turn them on at different points and use different sized nozzles. Also, if one ever did crap out, at least you weren't totally without alcohol. It works well. Maybe it not as good as an expensie system, but if it gets me 90% there for a 10% of the cost, I'll take it. I used the windshield washer pump and bottle. Costs about $30 at the U-pick-it yard. (May not work on a IC car because of the blow-thru design, but those little pumps can deliver 45+ psi.) I tried to tell others here about my success (I droped a nearly a second off my ET's the first day I used it!), but it always turned into a debate with a vendor about how my cheap system would fail and damage my motor. People naturally side with the vendor because he's the expert. ![]()

| Registered User | Now you have a reading problem. I said your "statement" was stupid. It can happen to all of us though so don't take it personal. I didn't mean it that way. Just read my reply to what I quoted. Your statement lacked objectivity. You were comparing a $500 alky kit to no alky kit. I rest my case that that was a stupid statement and there's been enough vendor favored bias on alky kits posted on TR forums that I feel it's time to call a unqualified statement what it is. THe only end point I'm aiming for here is a level playing field with accuracy in the information posted.

| There's several ways a DIY kit can be MUCH safer than a one size fits all kit. Run a second pump with a switch setting a few psi. higher than your boost control setting or wastegate setting, over boosting will turn on the second pump and provide plenty of alky. protection, way more than any kit could do when you overshoot the 3 bar map control, then BOOM, or have maxxed out a single pump at a lower psi. than the map is reading, then BOOM when you go higher in boost. Another scenario with the second pump would be a knock based turn on point, easily done with a simple counter, or tapping into a knock gauge. And of course the savvy DIY'er can find a chip on the internet with progressive 0-5 volt control for PWM for about $1.50. ![]() All you do is add a few simple components and a power mosfet or two and you have a progressive controller to use with your motorola transducer that has a nice 32psi. range for $20 and is more accurate than the GM Map for boost applications. Simple staging of nozzles is easy and can be as good as or better than a progressive controller, but of course you do need to do some work and learn, rather than simply study the multi-page instructions and tuning information that some folks have trouble with for the "kits". ![]() You can learn lots of things by trying, some folks learn the hard way however. If you fear spritzing in alky. through a misting nozzle, may the Lord help you when you try to comprehend the alky. gooroos tuning methods for spark and timing and monitoring those pesky sensors and all to get the car running properly. ![]() |

| Grump Hey Remember Me? Glad to see some people with input from other Alky systems. Razors isn't the only one that works and anyone with a little ingenuity can build a system that works. The purchased systems whatever kind is just easier. Love my CoolingMist but went bucks up and got fancy and fancy costs but keep it simple and you can still go fast I'm building a DIY system for my sons car. That saying sound familiar doesn't it Grump "keep it simple"? ![]()
