tuning with alky 101

Good buddy of mine, has had about 4 TRs in the past and now owns an SRT4, his name is MAtt. Some of you may know him, grew up in Philly, was cool with the Kirbans. Anyways... we went at it from a roll (boost is set pretty low with the stock tranny) but aside from that, we noticed that I was boggy/alky rich off the start.

Couple runs later (on desolate roads, of course) I turn the alky nob down to about 10-11 oclock (this run is from a stop in 3rd gear again) and launch with no bogging...

Scanmaster recal read
o2 656
0 knock
about 17-19 PSI boost

Any basic tips to tuning with alky or is it as simple as turning the nob down if it's boggy off the line/start of roll launch...?

Thanks for anything,
nero

if all you want is 17 -19 lbs you might as well just chuck the alky and get a 93 chip, for that boost you dont need much alky .

the low reading could very well be overdoing the alky and washing the spark out

no two cars are alike but razors sets the base settings very close , if you havent messed with the settings for reference i was at 11:30 -12:00 with 27 psi .

what boost was your chip burned to run at ? and is it an alky chip
if it is an alky chip i doubt it was set for running 17-19 , running that boost you will bog ,but due to the cut back fuel you wont be able to turn the alky off to run at 17 psi .

if it was a street chip (say setup to run at 17psi with low timing ) and not an alky chip and you run the same boost with alky added youll be rich and probably bogging down low .if you want to run at 17-19 psi youll need to pull fuel so you can add some alky .
if it is a street chip for 17psi you should have boost up near 23 psi with alky

as for how to tune , you did read razors tuning secrets sticky on the other board , didn't you ?

once you get the boost up into the mid 20s i doubt youll go back to running 19 ever again and then comes the fun part when you start fine tuning the alky ,boost ,fuel and timing to what your car likes as it gets faster

Good call. TT alky chip set for 23lbs, I think. Either way, I guess I can expect that until I get a real tranny back there and up the boost!

thread hack

I was at the local Sherwin Williams paint spot... they have "Denatured Solvent Alcohol" is that the same as plain old Denatured?

Thanks

YEah, I should!!! I'm low now, though! Jim (Jbenn911) gave me an awesome site that allowed me to email some folks and they hit me back with local meth dealers... but both numbers didn't work

Until I find a source... I'm SOL with the denatured 'solvent' alcohol!

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps-and yes, I'm reading the heck out of that tuning thread of Razor's

Hey guys, how did you tune your car with wideband sensor. Without water/methanol (50/50) my a/f is at 11.3 from 3000 to 6500 and with water/methanol 12.57. I need some tips, thank you!

Get rid of the water.. as it displaces fuel and leans you out.

Easy.

Razor: you really think adding water/methanol in a rich fuel mixture can lean my car ?
