Alternate fluids...

Anyone ever try toluene in their water injection system? Or maybe a 50/50 mix with water or alky. I constantly read about toluene's great anti knock properties. Other than the dangers of this stuff being extremly flammable, and toxic. It has a natural octane of 114 or so. I don't see it being anymore dangerous than running a 7th injector. If this stuff kept the knock down in f1 cars running 70+ pounds of boost I figure it could help us out a little too? Any opinions on this?

Not designed for that application. Its an octane booster. But no chemical properties like alcohol/water in effectively bringing down temps.

Keep tolulene and xylene in the gas tank mixed with fuel where it belongs. You wont find anyone adding alcohol to theyre gas in the tank. Its used in a totally different way.

You can make enough power on alcohol injection to split your block. I dont know why anyone would keep adding foreign liquids on something that works. I guess its a little boredom

hydrogen peroxide, acetone, water, windshield washer fluid, etc.. tons of stuff.. why???

I'll stick to my stuff straight.

Boredom and a curious mind....thats about it. But I'll stick to the tried and true. I always check here to see if anyone has already tried an idea. That way I'm not the test subject.

Thanks again razor.

I'm curious as to how MTBE would work, anyone tried it? After searching the web it appears MTBE has a rating of 115-116 using the R+M/2 formula. I would think t would be interesting to see how it performed with denatured considering the 14 point octane increase along with the 40% higher energy content(35.18 vs. 26.68 MJ/Kg) but it gives up 66% heat of vaporization(0.322 vs. 0.913 MJ/Kg) and about 1/2 lower oxygen content(18.2 vs. 34.7 wt%).

If you can find MTBE under $50/gallon, let me know.

I've read a little bit of the excepts from "ROCKET FUEL", and from what they describe, toluene is one of the main ingredients in race fuel. I've heard that if you mix about 5 gallons of that with some 104....you can get nearly 110 octane unleaded. But...on that note....i wouldnt want to inject ANYTHING into my motor is experimental or unproven. How do you feel about using Methanol compared to denatured alcohol Razor?
