General alky questions.

Lots of the bigblock guys useing spray bars found that they get better atomization if they spray up stream (away from the carb.) Looks like most alky kits are tapped into the uppipe and right angled tward the TB. Wouldn't it work better if I right angled it away from the TB? Am I wrong here?

Also I've heard spraying alky pre turbo will chew up your compressor blades, but only if you don't mist the water fine enough. My question is what is considered fine enough? And wouldn't water puddle up in the IC? Or at least condense? I was going to use all silicone charge piping on my car so if I could spray pre-turbo this would help me out alot.

Thanks

I think the velocity in the uppipe under boost is such that it does not matter whcih way it is pointed...it is going to be atomized instantly under high boost. Facing the oncoming air will work against the pump pressure to some extent, I believe.

People that run straight alky (or higher percentages of alky vs water) seem to be concerned about the possible dangers of alky in the ic. If it does not go bang, it will corrode the aluminum.

On the spraying thru the turbo, there seems to be some debate over the years on the matter. If you use the AquaMist nozzles, it might take a very long time to eat away the compressor wheel. It has been done on sand dragsters and such in the past....

I had mine pointed toward the front of the car. Pointing away from the TB. Worked fine for me.

Mine was an older SMC kit and the instructions actually said to point it away.

Always ran 100% denatured also

Rob I think what is meant is reguarding the NOS style nozzle thats a fan tip. On those they typically point into the air since the alcohol is being sprayed not misted. Using a mist nozzle or aquamist(mist nozzle) its a non issue where and when you spray. But realize alcohol has a low flash temp.. but still has a temp. I believe its like 50 degrees. So when using alky and its really cold outside, it doesnt flash as well.

Water is much higher like 200 degrees thats why it has to be finely misted vs alcohol which isnt as critical. You mix water and alky.. then your flash point between 50-200.. and depends on mist.

You dealing with a liquid not a gas. When you understand its not nitrous.. things will make some sense.

Back to the original NOS fan tip nozzle is pointed into the air stream not the throttle body.. becuase alcohol is being spurted out.. doing so aids in its atomization so it flashes. Kinda like pissing into a fan.. it disperses the fluid

Simple mist nozzle coupled with high pressure works tremendously
