Osama's War

Got this via Email and posting here for Gothmog.

He's always asking why aren't we chasing OBL. Well, maybe this is the reason:

When the Duke of Wellington was asked what he would do at the Battle
of Waterloo he said "Whatever Napoleon does not want me to do".

The way to defeat al-Qaeda is not to give it the battle it wants and chase
terrorists throught the Pamir Mountains and the Hindu Kush but to go
for their heartland and do what they do not want the US to do. A democracy in Iraq will be the first step needed to bring the people in the Mid-East out of the 9th century. This war was necessary because of the growing danger to the civilized world posed by the terrorists and there's no way that sitting down and talking with the people of that region will accomplish anything.

Remember too that the threat from Germany and Japan was removed by completely changing the nature of their societies. Once they became dedicated democracies they were no longer hostile. Changing the Arab societies in a similar way can have a similar happy result.

Liberalism faltered when it turned out it could not cope with truth. D. Moynihan

Some in my party threaten to send a message that they don't know a just war when they see it, and more broadly that they're not prepared to use our military strength to protect our security and the cause of freedom. Joe Lieberman

Somehow liberals have been unable to acquire from life what conservatives seem to be endowed with at birth: namely, a healthy skepticism of the powers of government agencies to do good. Daniel Moynihan
