We don't have a long term problem going forward. That is an illusion that has been created by the whackos.
We have had a problem in the past years because Congress put a stop to effective exploration in this country. The short term solution is to start drilling and building refineries. Intial cost will be high to employ environmentally acceptable standards but unit cost will come down quickly with increased production.
Canada has already demonstrated this with its tar sand production. I believe that is up to around one million barrels today.
Germany, in the second World War, demonstrated the ability to produce synthetic fuel to power its war machine when it was cut off from its oil supply.
The problem is simple. The implementation is made difficult by those that are determined to replace oil as an energy source. Unfortunately, genius's that they claim to be, no one has come up with an effective replacment that meets the country's need.
The facts are readily accessible.
