The part is called a vapor filter. Its supposed to keep the gas vapors produced by the engine from eating the rubber diaphragm inside the booster. GM has been using them since the 70's. The bracket is a tool box item from the boneyard. I'm using the TTA vacuum block on top of the TB for my vacuum source and I just thought this part was a neat way to make the engine compartment look a little cleaner. If I had the time I'd engineer a metal vacuum pipe that wrapped around the intake manifold so the hose could be routed closer to the firewall. I never did like the looks of a big rubber hose running over the valve cover to the TB. I've always thought the IC motor was a work of art and should be the center piece of the car. Its little detail items like this that keep issues like the hoses from becoming a distraction.
