I would use an electric one unless you are building a race car. I ran mine side by side with an mechanical one and the difference was 3lbs at most. Who cares if you reading at cruise is 50 or 53 or 20 or 23 at idle. as long as your pressure is in range it's fine. If you do go mechanical make the run as simple and short as possible. Make a hole in the firewall(and grommet) and mount on the console or above the glove box.
Keep the idiot light too. Most don't know they lost pressure until it knocks or locks up eek!
