Over in the 3rd Gen Eclipse world, Xtech Engineering has developed a turbo kit for a very non-turbo car. After months of exhaustive R&D, they scrapped the FMIC and went with this:

a Spearco Air-to-liquid intercooler

I can't remember exactly, but supposedly the gains were in the 20% neighborhood, due to space constrictions. The website for them is www.xtecheng.com, and the owner is Chris Clough, a very nice guy that helped out a bunch of power hungry guys over at Club3G

I'm sure it would require some fancy custom piping, but it seems to me like it would be worth it. I was contemplating an 85 recently, and looked around for a similar product in the GN/TR parts sites I found, and didn't see one.
