Talking '87 GN vs. BMW M5

First, a mod list for my 128,000 mile '87 GN:

Suspension mods:
body bushings, front frame braces, rear seat braces, graphite front & rear susp. bushings,
235/60/15 BFG Radial T/A's

Power mods:
3' pipe, 3' cat w/2 1/2" stock appearing cat-back, KN filter, TA49, pump/regulator upgrade, green stripes, Bowling Green's 93 street chip, boost @ 19 lbs on 100 octane

Now, the prey:

BMW M5, '98 or '99, I think

So there I am.....it's Friday night and I'm out trolling for 'Stangs and older 'Vettes. I'm sitting at the light at Snelling Ave. & Larpenter in St. Paul, MN. I look to my right & see a guy in a 3-piece suit driving a black M5.

He's looking at my GN. We're the first two cars in line. I roll down my pass. window & he gives me the "finger twirl". I say "are you serious...you want to race??" He doesn't say anything...he just nods his head.

It's about 50 degrees out....perfect trolling weather. So I say "Ok....let's go for it when the light turns green."

The light turns & I give it everything I've got (after all, I've read 'Car & Driver'and 'Road & Track', and have "learned" that Bimmers are far superior to our barbaric U.S. autos).

Well....400 HP German V-8 be damned, I look right & he's losing ground fast----as if he wasn't really trying! I'm thinking....oh well, that was over kinda quick....did he miss a gear? (In a Bimmer??)

So, now we're on the brakes for the next red light. The M5 pulls up on the right. He gives me the race sign again.

Now, I'm thinking...hmmm...maybe he thought I jumped the light or something. Either that, or he just likes to lose. Oh, well...this time I'll give him the intersection before I launch, then he'll have no excuse. There's a nice 2 mile run before the next light.

He launches....I wait a moment & launch. I'm catching him right off the bat. So, in about a city block, I'm passing him. I'm thinking....this is so easy, I think I'll mess with him a bit. So, after I pass, I let off 'til we're even, look over…smile and wave. Then I nail it again & pass...slow down 'til we're even...smile & wave.

Can you guess what happens next?

That's right....he flips me the bird!! I just grin, floor it, pass him again...and wave... ........'bye-'bye Bimmer! Needless to say, we didn't get together & discuss the race....

P.S.: I made sure he was looking when I hit the brakes, so he could see the Buick lens in my third tail light---just in case he thought it was a Monte Carlo SS...........
